Old Smileys

Can I just ask, does Auran mind if we reference the old set of smileys in out posts? (I've just found the URLs in a file on my computer) Personally, I think these were better than the current ones.

I think there were more, but I don't have their URLs.

Perhaps a small addition to the COC could control the usage. Excessive usage can be a pain, but used carefully they add to a post (my opinion). I have to admit though that the old "cool" smiley was definately a bit cheesy.

If this is possible (I've seen it on other boards, though not on this one so far) it will be controllable from the User CP, but the old ones are referenced by URL, not by : ), so it won't be affected I'm afraid.

This is because the php [?] script recognises the images made out in the letters and symbols, and inserts an image in their place, wheras these are no longer part of that system, and just reside on the server as images. When linked to, the system will not "know" that they are smileys.

In theory, you could replace the new with the old, but I would not expect Auran to do this for the protection of charactors such as yourself [narrowgauge] who may get annoyed by them.

Hi Titaniclover - if you take a look at my other post, you will see that the smileys from the old forum are still on the server, whereas the ones you've linked to in your post are not.

I'll have a play with the URLs to see if they're still there...

Shikadi - back in what many but not all consider to be the good old days, these were what we were supplied with, but as you can see from this thread not everyone appreciates them. Personally, I'd like to see them back, but although this is not a difficult task I do not expect Auran to do so (not a dig at Auran, just an observation).

I still think there are some missing, but I can't remember the names off the top of my head. It just doesn't seem a full set somehow.

You can see that all you need to change is the actual name of the gif file, to reflect your mood at the time. You can get these from the current set by right clicking on them and viewing their properties. The names are the same, because of the way the forum works (an insight is brilliant), so it's just a case of transcripting them.

Basically, I've posted it as an image, using the URL of the actual location. There is a very slight difference between the URL of the new and old which identifies the two sets.

Click edit on your post where you've quoted me, then switch editor mode to view the vB code.

Compare it to posting an image from Imageshack, but here the location is already Auran.
