old maps and understanding numbers on them?

Ok this is not strictly a trainz question but it is linked. Im looking at an old map - dated 1903. On it are several numbers - usually a 2 or 3 digit number above a 3 or 4 digit number. EG 65 above .877 (note the decimal point at start). On a 1927 map of the same area this number has changed as follows 58 above 17.720.
Can anyone tell me what these numbers represent? I am assuming that they are possibly plot reference numbers ( field or building) rather than height numbers?
The map in question is an old map of my home town showing the rail lines at that time and is taken from part of an old OS map.

Somebody with more knowledge will confirm or correct me but I think the whole number (e.g.89) is a number associated with that field (perhaps a survival of the tithe system?) and the decimal is the acreage. The BM mark is referring to the benchmark (broad arrow) and the number is its height in feet above sea level.

Sorry I didn't get back, I think teddytoot is correct, those numbers relate to the parcel of land they are in. Probably not much use for Trainz I would guess.
