Old cars for historic layout

I am attempting to model the Yosemite Valley Railroad, which ran from Merced to El Portal at the entrance to Yosemite National Park. I want to include some roads with traffic, but need to change them to period specific cars, for example, 1930s and 1940s vehicles. Does anyone know a way to exchange the modern cars on road splines for older cars, and a source for these?
TIA,
Wayne

You can do an era search for vehicles (or other stuff) on the DLS website.

1. Click the Download Station link on the bar near the top of the page.
2. Do a simple vehicle search and let the page load. (Check Trainz versions from yours down to Trainz.)
3. Click Search Again to jump to the search form. There'll be a new section below it.
4. For time period select 1930s or 1940s and click search.
5. Scroll down past a whole bunch of modern trucks that are not filed right to some vintage vehicles.

Don't know if all the vehicles are usable for traffic or not, but from what I saw it looked like the items that were static scenery only were specifically noted as such, which kind of implies that most are intended for traffic use.

Note that if using TS2010 the cars may need some changes to be usable as traffic, which might make redistributing the route tricky if you decide to do that. There was a thread on the forums here recently talking about how to modify cars for traffic use.

You can make any car you like drive arround the roads, it is only if you want to drive the car it requires an engine and a cab with controls. I tried a house driving on my roads just for fun, and it works.

If that was directed at me, I wasn't talking about making a vehicle drivable. I was talking about changes in TS2010 that mean old traffic vehicles may not work as road traffic in TS2010. (In particular the issue affects the Settle & Carlisle add-on, as well as other routes made for previous versions of Trainz.)

The issue is mentioned in the TS2010 FAQ in the TS2010 forum and is discussed in detail here:
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=52958

Zec has a post in the thread above explaining how to make an asset to allow an old car to be used as road traffic in TS2010.

Edit: Oh, and Auran is planning to fix the issue as far as Settle & Carlisle is concerned.

Hi EdrickV,

Sorry I don't have 2010 but nowhere in the original post does it say carz in 2010. Once again it is a reminder to users to give clearer information on Trainz versions and/or system specs if they are having trouble.

Cheers,

I know the original poster didn't specify what version he has. On my first post I said "Note that if using TS2010 the cars may need some changes to be usable as traffic,"

Then you posted the comment about making cars drivable, so I posted to tell you that wasn't what I was referring to. :)

Another static idear

Have a look at the cars by gatorail Cars 12 sedans 12 coupes, 6 carryalls, 3 police cars & vans, Herse, amblance, taxi, 2 woodies and a suburban

He has other vehicles that might help as well.
