Old British Rail Video

Lurking since 2005
Hey all,

I don't normally start new threads or anything, but I found this old British Rail video shot during, to my mind, what looks like the twilight of British Rail mainline steam. It's an interesting video set to music about what it calls "The power of rail."

It's about 13 minutes long. Enjoy!

Made in 1967 - the final full year of steam hauled passenger services on the British Rail network.

(Steam hauled passenger services ended in August 1968. If memory serves, steam hauled goods / freight services lasted a few months longer, but I think the British main line was completely steam-free by the end of 1968. As I said, this is from memory, so I stand to be corrected!)

The British Film Institute sell several compilations of short documentaries from the 1930s onward - although unfortunately for those who don't have the right kind of DVD player, they're Region 2 only. A shame, as I'd have thought they'd be ideal candidates for a region-free release.
