Oh the joy of building a new pc

I had the good fortune to order parts to build myself a new pc this week. Parts duly ordered arrived today. New pc consists of an i7 2600 running 8gb ram and 2x Nvidia gtx 460 graphic cards.
As I was not installing a new hard drive I thought - no problem all I need to do is connect my existing drive to the new system. Connected all up and powered on for first time. No problem. That was until the computer came to access windows. No way was this new system going to access windows under any circumstances. My drive was split into 3 areas with windows in its own section. No problem all I needed to do was reinstall windows and then reinstall the software.
Several hours later I am wondering why my nice new shiny pc is still taking forever to update the patches from Trainz 2009. Considering the size of the patches I cannot understand why it takes so long to install them.

Still the bright side is my pc is now considerably faster at everything else :)
My last system which is now sat behind me consisted of a dual core duo 3ghz running 4gb ram and an old nvidia card of which I cant remember at the moment what it was.

One question just springs to mind. Does Trainz make use of graphic cards linked as SLI? It would be a shame once all the patches are done to not make use of it. Or can anyone suggest on how to set up the cards to get the best performance for the game?

Based on what I've read, generally no, Trainz doesn't use SLi. I seem to remember at one point some people saying it causes problems, though I believe simply disabling SLi in the driver prevents any issues. I'm not sure that's even a problem anymore with the newer drivers. But, yeah, Trainz takes a long time to patch because the patches modify the installed content and do a database check. Just sip on a cool one and think of how your trainz will be running in a few hours...;)

Aww man:'( . That spoils everything in my department. I have been on the lookout for good gaming PC parts. I wonder why trainz won't work with SLI. In my opinion, motherboards and video cards that are SLI ready, gives the PC something like a good boost. It's alot cheaper than constantly upgrading components to get better performance. I think it also improves framerates.

I agree on that point. Maybe we should get Auran to include it in a later patch? I tried it with and without this morning. With SLI the screen takes on a blue sheen and flashes a lot. Without it it works fine.
I went for an SLI machine not necessarily because of games (although that is a major boost - except Batman) but for 3ds max. I shall let you know how it performs with that once Ive completed reinstalling it. :)
