Obsolete GWR locos & rolling stock

After many months of experimenting with my Trainz for Mac I version I finally and happily downloaded many of the GWR locos and rolling stock and proceeded with building a new layout and editing some of my favorite GWR layouts.
Nice locos, beautiful contemporary rolling stock. Happy. Most of it was running just fine, and I enjoyed it very much.

Then I decided that it may be time to clean up all of my downloaded stuff and I pressed the 'Rebuild Database' button.

Next I found that 98% of my, perfectly working, GWR locos and stock had been deemed 'faulty' or 'obsolete' by Trainz.... And none of it works anymore or even appears in my routes or in the Trainyard.

Needless to say that I am utterly disgusted by this.

- Edited the rest of the text in this first message: the problem was/is real, but my reaction to it was a bit over the top.

Yes, calm down. There are ways to fix things like this. Swearing off Trainz and Auran as a whole without trying any way to fix your problem is a bit of a harsh reaction.

Hi Malc, ( and Brett ) thanks for your replies.
Tried the revert function already - it works in Mac just the same - , but nearly all of the downloaded stuff still turns up either faulty, or as obsolete.
As I said I have spent many hours on this until I'm fairly self sufficient in Surveyor and most of my running stock and locos were working just fine. I used the in-game download function for all the GWR stuff and spent many hours on getting all the needed dependencies too. And had fun with it for two evenings... So, yes I'm disappointed... I mean, what's the point of having a large download station inventory if much of the stuff there is obsolete. The only reason I can think of is that I am compelled by Auran to use Payware, probably. Or am I being paranoid about this ?

If an asset is marked as obsolete, that means you have a newer version installed which has overwritten it. Generally you can delete any obsolete assets without causing any problems.

Thanks, that makes sense, was wondering about the exact meaning of obsolete. But then, why is all of the downloaded GWR stuff now absent ?

It's probably all still there somewhere, it's probably just the actual database that's got screwed up, things don't usually get deleted. Flying blind on the Mac version, but in the Windows version there is a backup folder where anything that's edited or deleted ends up, how far back it goes depends on what it's set to, the default is a few days after that it gets deleted.
Thoughts? GWR stuff, there may have been an update of a common dependency that's causing the problem. skipper1945's locos use a lot of common bits, vacuum pipes and such, only take one to have a problem and the loco's don't appear in game, are they still listed in Content Manager as faulty or with missing dependencies?

Really Need a Mac user, never seems to one about when there's a problem!

Thanks Malc, narrowed it down a bit I guess.
Been looking at the assets that now appear in red in my Content Manager and it seems that there's a problem with a missing or faulty ACSlib and the AJS Superscript Code Library...
So I think that's the problem here... Tried reverting both, or downloading them anew, but that doesn't work.

Somethings ringing loud bells here, Presumably these?
ACSlib,<kuid2:60850:89100:9> which is builtin to TS12 SP1 HF4
AJS Superscript Code Library,<kuid2:122285:508:20> again builtin to TS12 SP1 HF4

However they are not builtin to TS12 pre SP1 but were updates from the DLS.

Been quite a few issues involving the AJS Superscript, if you have the update, you might need to remove it and revert to the previous if you don't have the update you might need it.

There's a thread on various issues here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?107730-Problem-with-AJS-Superscript/page2

1: Never do a Database Rebuild unless you have to... If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

2: Rage quitting never got anybody anything except more time on their hands.... Computers are quixotic in all their facets. Learn to appreciate it, or go drop your cash on HO/OO Models. Everything is going to change again with T:ANE. Its part of this hobby, learn to expect it, or better yet, anticipate it, or you'll have alot of heart ache and butt hurt for no real reason.....

3:When you don't know what to do, try Asking others that might.... On that score you seem to have improved, and thats good. This board and numerous others are full of people more knowledgeable then your or I about this hobby and how to make things work.....

4:Life isn't a vacation, its a journey.... Buying some locos and plunking them down is nothing. At the end of they day they're nothing more then Ephemeral virtual phantoms that can only move forward or backward. But when you've bloody well spent a couple months fighting to accomplish one tiny little change, and you accomplish it, suddenly they can mean a whole lot more then you ever would have thought......

After that, you're in good hands with the other folks that have posted here,
Falcus

Thanks, guys - sorry for flying off the handle like that, and I have edited that first post accordingly.

Got most of the problems sorted already by deleting some assets or faulty dependencies and downloading them again.
Still some more work to do, but I think I'll get most of the GWR stock back in action.

The 'never do a Database Rebuild' advice is maybe the best lesson of all - it should be pinned somewhere, I think.
