Number of Cameras

Getting Older :)
Hi everyone,

Is there a limit to the number of cameras a layout can have in 2009 or 2010?

Many thanks,

Craig

Heya Craig,

Would think its limited to what you PC can handle, just like route size etc. Though I could be wrong.

Pretty sure there isn't. I have overlapping tracking cams covering the entire length of my Clovis route (over 200 miles and growing) with no problems (yet!). The route runs fine in 09 and/or 10

Thanks Trent and Andy, I did not think so. I was on messenger this morning with another member and he thought the limit was 32. He was not sure why he thought that number, but I have never heard of an actual limit. Of course I have not read everything so thought I would ask.

Thanks for your help.

A tracking camera covers a maximum diameter of 400 meters. Allowing for overlap call that about 4 cameras per mile, therefore 200 miles = 800 cameras (more or less) on Clovis2. I am about 25 miles into Clovis3, so add another 100 or so. Given that the overlap in some areas is considerable, I suspect I am nudging up towards 1,000 cameras on C3. If there is a limit it is significantly higher than 32...

Hi Andy,
With cameras overlapping like yours do don't you find that long trains create an effect where the cameras rapidly swap between each other with an almost strobe like appearance? I have removed some cameras from some routes because of this!

Thanks Poul, I have those and they will now be getting a lot of use on my merged "Southlines/Peter Gibbons" routes layout I now have. I finally have a computer that can handle something that size :)

If you use 'Tracking Cameras' (the green ones) then they seamlessly follow the selected item of rolling stock. If however you use the 'Fixed Cameras' (the red ones) you will get the unpredictable swapping back-and-forth thing...

Hi Andy,

Now that you mention it...................
Just something I hadn't noticed, thanks for the reply.

camera use

Hello Craig,
I'm still using trs2006 and feel that 2009 and 2010 would be no different when it comes to cameras use.
The map I sent you has cameras everywhwere and I intend to add more at a later date as I make changes to the landscape.
I'm not aware of a method to display how many cameras are in the map but I know that there is more than thirty two and would be able to add more if required.

Tom
