The Norwegian State Railway Company (NSB) has decided to buy 50 new "SuperTrains".
The winner was Stadler Bussnang AG's Stadler Flirt.

The agreement between NSB and Stadler,at a value of 4 billion NKR also includes the option to buy 100 more sets.
The Flirt has room for 1083 passengers and travel up to 200 Kmt.
Stadler has so far delivered 285 Flirt set's in europe, and 413 sets are ordered so far this year
According to the manufacturer, the Flirt is well suited for the Norwegian climate ( cold and harsh)

MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SUBJECT:
Nsb made a huge mistake by bying the Flirts.
Reason?
Out of 100 stations, only 3 are buildt to fit these.
I guess The NSB will spend another billion to rebuild all the depots?
And last, our Lines are so bad, that speed restrictions are present at all time,
Exept around the capitol (Oslo) Where they have spent Huge amounts of money rebuilding and modernizing the entire infrastructure
Last time we bought Trains from Europe, we shiped them back after a few months.
But at least they look good ;D

personally i don't see anything that ugly about them, quite the contrary, other then that repulsive red db has taken to painting everything since privitization.

i am familiar however with one size fits all not fitting real local conditions at all, having grown up on a railroad with relatively steep grades (for a class 1) over high mountains with sever winter condtions.

(and some of the fiascos and misscalculations that has occasionally led to)

Like caddylars said, I can see the NSB incurring great costs in setting these trains in service, mostly in upgrading the infrastructure so that they can actually be used the way they were built to be used. It would probably be much cheaper to just fix what's broken and keep using it, that's what a few private companies have been doing here, and it works very well for them.
