No content manager for Trainz2010

I'm new to Trainz2010; I downloaded it from Steam. I can't get the content manager to open, nothing pops up. I've reloaded it several times, checked and verified the cache files. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of people have reported having problems of one sort or another with the Steam download version. Are you running the game and CM as administrator (if you have Vista or Win7). If the Steam version installs similar folders to the original version then in the Trainz directory you will see a bin folder which contains an icon from which you can launch CM without launchig the game. (ContentManager.exe) copy and paste this icon to your desktop and launch CM from there. BY doing this you are launching it without having to start the game

If this is like that other sim, then the program files (Trainz) have probably been altered by Steam to prevent non Steam running so any standard solutions will probably not work. You could try starting CM directly but that might be prevented. OP, Sorry for your problems but since you already had TRS2006, didn't you notice any of the numerous warnings posted here to stay away from Steam? Whatever dubious advantage there might be to download it from them is more than offset by all the problems that it causes. Before anyone thinks this is just Trainz, just read the many tales of woe on the other sim's forums about Steam.

Wow, didn't know there were so many problems with Steam. I can't find the Trainz file with which to open Trainz CM from, so that doesn't work. Is it better to get the hard copy on CD? Sounds like I'm screwed and out $30

Yes, get the nonsteam version, I had the steam version, I bit the bullet, and was switched to the regular version inside of a week. STEAM does not seem to have any interest in helping/fixing/upgrading this sim.

You may want to run the Trainz Diag program to see if your system is compliant with the requirements. I know CM in 2006 required a robust OpenGL installation to work properly, are you using up to date drivers for your Video Card?

it ran the diagnostic during installation and everything came up clean. This is the one of the fastest laptops with a quad i7 processor, AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT 1GB Graphics. Steam is deferring to Auran to fix the problem, I've entered a request to them as urgent, and of course haven't heard back. Who should I buy the version from?

Buy it from Auran or JR or even amazon, just make sure it's from N3V in the case of amazon. I've just got 2012 for £30 boxed and postage included from N3V.
