NG18 Ore Car

Hi,

Can anyone help me out with a kuid for an ore car that can be loaded with various types of ore that is in 18in gauge?

Shortline2 offers a flat car, a lumber car and a tank car, but no "ore" car, or maybe it doesn't show up in my searches. I have seen a picture of an ore car in the Mancha 18 Trammer "jpg" thou. Very stange I can't locate it.

Thank you for any info or kuids.

Hi Al,

Unfortunately the 18 inch ore car was never fully finished as I hit a snag with the animation part on the load/unload bit.
Then the lock out of TRS2004 stuff happen on the DLS last year and while it was on the block to be fixed as lot of my other older stuff, I just never got around to do it due to time and effort it would take.

Even today, the files are only on my computer, sliding wheel, no animation on the load part/unload, no visible load, but, I have one operating inside of Trainz beside of those issues so it should be possible to make it happen.

I know one other guy was also making some, but I think he also hit the same snag as I on the load/unload part and making a good animation.
The cars are so small, hard to hide a load mesh and make it look good.

I tried a different approach, but my modeling skills where not up to my idea skill so..

That is why you can't find one on the DLS, or elsewhere for that matter from my hands. :(

When/if I get around to it, it will be a TS2009 or so build, same as the other fellow I mention seemed to have gone too - try the forum he has running at http://lilbscreationz.freeforums.org/

Wish I could bring better news :'(

Ore Car 18in

Hi Linda,

And Thank You Very Much for this unexpected reply!

Want you and others to know that the 234 assets for TRS 2004 on the DLS are absolutely terrific!

For the one layout I have been building now for over 6 years have added two or three "mine areas", std gauge and two foot NG. I was hoping to add a small "working mine" to one of the areas. I was able to get your Mancha 18in Trammer to work with the three cars you made for it, so I still could use these until you get the ore car working. But do understand that some things take more time to do than others.

Thank you again for all your efforts to make the Trainz experience add up to more than the sum of its parts! :)

And, thanks for that link, I'll check it out and post back here if I find an ore car in 18in.

Hi Linda,

I suspect that if you would be satisfied with the car being full or empty only (and potentially not using the product texture replacement), it wouldn't be too hard to do. Instead of using an animated mesh, use a mesh that gets displayed when the car is full, and hide the mesh when the car is empty. It should be a pretty easy script to do this.

If you get back to this car someday, let me know - I can give you a hand and see if we can get this to work.

Hi all,

Thanks to a PM from a guy Tuesday about some models I don't think is mine, I was lured into gmax and trying to resurrect an ore car of mine, it's a single side dumper, 18-inch gauge, and it has now animated wheels and a animated dump but, no load except a load showing if the car is filled or not.

Was unable to make it work with the dumping part, so gave that up again after I realized it was not possible to have one animated load for filling and another for dumping - unless I make it all into one animation and use a script to control what part of the animation is used for loading and what part is used for unloading.
-> At least that is how I think it has to be, not explored that, to stressful recreate the animation right now anyway after it got messed up somehow.

The car is sitting on my computer still, has a build 2.4 config but not sure if it will work in TRS2004 onward, as I only been doing test against TS12 - where it complains about the build number...

It is a very old model, built primarily in 2007 and some updates in 2008, then laid aside till Tuesday this week and then spent way to many hours trying to make it work in a way I can live with it...
And that is where it is right now...

I am trying to clean up the config file, and was out searching online for what base weight such an ore car might have, and that is how I ended up in this thread again, and decided, let me use it to write a small story about the last few days...

There is ton's of work left, cleaning up the textures, make a single texture file if possible and not many as it is now, add in a non rust part on the wheels where they meat the rail heads, try to make a texture swap so it can go dark inside the tunnels and not dark outside the tunnels - that is what I at least have left to do from top of my head.

Not sure if anything of that will happen though... I am getting tired of the car again, and all the rest, a fill and a dump place is also not made that I am aware of - for my test I used a LARS made small track only Industry taking coal I made years back...

There was also some problems with the shadow model, as that seem to only to be able to be attached to the wheels and the body part of the model, and as the top part is a fully animated side dumper, you see how it penetrates the shadow and it looks rather odd, but, I found no way to fix it...

I will try put up some image and more info later, right now I need to find that weight part of the car... I figured the size part of the config where it talks about the "queues" has to be in liters, so at least I got that part right as it was just a matter of doing the math on the height, width and length of the inside of the body where the ore is kept. :)
Sounds big when I found it to hold about 445 liters, to be hand pushed... Or in my case, dragged by the Little Trammer, my Mancha...model... :)

In today's world in the hunt for realistic models, this falls very, very, short, way down in the mud, the coupler is bad, there is hardly any working parts, it would not fully work in the real life as there are pieces not modeled and so in, but, I'm old enough to still have my imagination so what ever the model lacks, I have put it into my head and see it internally so to speak... :)

Not sure where to go from here though, I am sure by this thread and the PM early this week, there are at least 3 people interested, but if it is to go on the DLS, it has to be TS12 config so when the model has bad graphic, bad modelling, is it really of that much interest?

See you all later, my little story has come to an end right now. :)

In case it is of any use, and I am able to do this:

This is the car as it stands right now.

And, that conclude some stressful hours trying to make, upload and post this to you... My old computer refused to upload anything, parts of the youtube page was missing, I tried everything, in the end, I had to change computer to a more modern, darn... Oh well, at least you all get to see what I tried telling above.

Enjoy, if possible... :p

I am absolutely loving them !

I always was interested in the mine tunnels, and the Mancha loco.

I think my new found interest is the "Underground Mining" thread

Keep er' going, nice work !

It's here!

Hi to those special interested ones. :)

I decided to try if I was able to upload a build 2009 to the DLS, and I was able, so, for those lucky few that are able to play with badly textured and modeled small 18inch narrow gauge mining themed models, you are now able to add a ore car to your small collection! :)

Look it up on the DLS as 18inch ore car w/side dump (1 side) <KUID2:77573:102:1>

In addition you need the wheels: Wheels for 18inch orecar w/side dump <KUID2:77573:1020:1>

and I also added a interior view: Interior for 18inch orecar w/side dump <KUID2:77573:10201:1>

Looking at the download numbers you might ponder as I did why the car is downloaded about half of the other two items... :hehe:

Anyway, inside the car and wheel models there are my old basic TRS2004 config, no guaranties it will work straight out of the box in versions before TS2010 though as I only test ran it in TS12 and checked the config in TS2010 but has ran the car for years before that with no wheels turning and so on...

The Interior was a last minute add on, took me hours to work as I had forgot the attachment point a.cabfront in my models... I also had some issues with the texture being way to bluish on the Interior model, faked it better by playing with the texture, not great looking, but don't look down when in the car, and it all looks way better.. :hehe:

My focus after the PM - sorry, not replied yet per say, but you see I made a response to it a different way  - was to try make the model into the DLS before they shut out the build 2.9 and I was able, so, enjoy it if possible as it is not a great looking model, but I love it, after spending so much time with it, I has to love it... :p

Hopefully it has no great big errors that will show up at other peoples computers, and I hope it will be of use to those crazy enough to dive into the great blue underworld of Trainz! :D
