Newby to trainz12 Questions on creating new sessions/consists

Ok so here is where I am so far. I learned how to create a new consist in the create a session under the mojave route.

questions
1.) It saved as a new route and session which I named Mojave Super chief so do I keep the whole route or can I just save the session or new consist somehow?
2.) I still don't see the consist in the quick drive option. My goal was to create a new consist that I could just pick from the quick drive, How do I do that?
3.) Bottom line is I want to just create new trains/consists with different locomotives and have them appear in quick drive so I can use them on any route.
Feel free to email me! Give me a step by step tutorial or direct me to one...yes I am reading the manual cover to cover,,hmmmm! A little confusing!
One more thing what are my best settings on the lower end under options to get optinimum performance (frame rate)

Make a consist in Surveyor ( session edit). Now select the F7 tab which is the bottom one on the upper right of your screen that looks like a wheel. Open that, and at the top right, you will see a button on the top right that says Train Mode C, click on that. Now on the lower left of that window you will see something that looks like a fork, and when you click on that it allows you to select the train you want to save as a consist. Click on the consist, give it a name, so you will remember which is which, and save the session. Now any time you want to select that consist, it will be there.

Word processor, paint program, or game editor "save" assumes you want to overwrite the original, "save as" assumes you want to make a new one and leave the original alone. In most computer games that's complicated by built in stuff being copy protected so you can't overwrite it, so "save" automatically switches to "save as". So the simple way is create or edit a session, use only the session specific stuff and don't change track or scenery, then Save As, you should get the new session only.

Might be something in there that's not in the manual.

Thanks,,another question

Ok so once I create a consist in an edit of a session,,can I just save the consist and not the session?? Or how does that work?

This is how I do it, I hope this is what you want. In Surveyor, with the "Sessions" layer active, (all others locked) click on the "Trains" flyout (the bottom one). On a piece of track somewhere, in Vehicle Mode (top left button) select the "Vehicles" (locos and rolling stock !!!) you want and add them on the track, to make the consist. Then in "Train" (consist) mode, (right top button) press the "get consist" button (lower left corner) and click on any vehicle in the consist, and a text box will pop up allowing you to name it. Give it a unique meaningful name. That should be it. Add a driver, allocate the loco of the consist to him/her, and you're done. If you want, you can then delete that instance of the consist.

You should then be able to select this consist in "Quick Drive", but to be honest I never use that.

Hope this helps,

Mick Berg.

Thanks Mike,,,I'm sure this all will help...

How about settings for a little faster frame rate,,,or just what you think the best settings are,,both in the game and in the options mode..thanks again!

I've found that the most significant setting for this is "draw distance". I have it set to 2500, with no ill effects. You can add a little "good weather fog" to make it a little less obvious.
