Hey Gang

Im new here to Trainz. spent alot of time in MSTS and RW3. I have a question about track laying. Is there a way to lay more than one section of track at one time. Like if I want double or triple track.

Hi,

You can get double, triple and quad tracks, but there are none in TS12, as TS12 does not support multiple track I believe. You can find them in TRS2006 though.

Multiple track isn't good for curves, and most people will say to just use rows of single track for curves, as single track can be straightened.

Single track is easier to work with too, and it makes proper curves.

So you can lay more than one track at a time, but it is not recommended. You will get better results using single track.

You can lay multiple tracks for straight a ways ... and use single tracks for curves.

Multi track is a great track spacing template.

After a route is done ... I delete all the multi track splines, and replace them all with single tracks.

You can create a route in TRS2006 .... and later on import it into TS12.

TS12 has layers (like a cake) ... so you edit the top layer ... or your most receint work may be lost if working on a different layer. (That's why I create routes in TRS2006)

TS12 supports double track - which can be any number of tracks wide. In pasts versions it was limited to 5 maximum and in TS9 IIRC they messed up and it was just 2.

There was a serious bug in TS12 that effected all kind bridge track in trainz - bridge, double and tunnels - but it was fixed with one of the patches they put out.

the thing that works the best for me when laying track is getting the attachment points just next to eachother
and I almost always use a track with a fill, working on a track department I've learned first hand that in most cases there is not just this big spot of ballast under the tracks
but that it is indeed like a fill then like a dirt or something below that
everyone has their preferances
that is mine

There are also assets known as way gauges (my favourite name) or spacers which if used will enable you to lay double or multiple tracks accurately at the correct spacing for your chosen region.

They are about the simplest thing to make in, for example. Trainz Asset Creation Studio/GMax and no doubt in Blender, although I have no experience of the latter. I make my own whenever I need one whether it be for standard gauge track to UK standards, Belgian Tram metre gauge track, 3'6" gauge UK tram track, or whatever.

There are also some on the DLS named 'AJS ...' which I used before making my own.

Incidentally, they can be made to update to any chosen track attached to them. If you need to know how, just ask.

I use the shift key and the spline points will not attach to each other..That is how I lay all of the track..Now remember though when using that method, that you have release the click point first or it will not work..The advantage is you wiill be able too use the straighting tool, where on double track it will not work..Happy Trainzing..
