Newbie: Creating AI rolling stock on a Free Ride route

Hi, I'm brand new to Trainz. Really like it, and look forward to exploring it fully. Used to use MS Train Simulator back in the day, and I love discovering this new sim.

As I explore routes that are set up as "Free Drive", I've learned how to place my own consists here and there. But I don't know how to create a fully AI train for a given route.

Is that pretty complicated? Where do you start?

Google virtualrailroader. They have tons of PDFs explaining quite a bit about this sim. Mostly for older versions but the basics still apply. Helped me a lot when I first started. A few detail how they built an operating session for a given route. Very helpful.

Ok, thanks. I'll do that.

Once you get into rules, driver commands, triggers and such this sim comes alive for me. A lot of fun setting up a session. A bit daunting at first but well worth the time to learn. Actually having some I in the AI helps.

It's just a matter of giving commands to drivers.

This video (best watched full screen and in HD) shows the process and the outcomes:

If you search youtube with "philskene" you will find other videos that show how to configure interactive industries, freight cars, ... .

Tell me if this helps.

Great! Just what I was looking for. I'll watch tonight and let you know. I've been surfing the forums for a few weeks, and a lot of your other posts have really helped me as well.

thanks again,

Robert

Yeah, after a few weeks of driving around, I felt like I wanted to populate some of these great routes with my own AI trains. Thanks.
