Hope someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. I have registered a new copy of TRS2009 on a new high spec computer.
Used to be on TRS2006 and mostly downloaded from sodor island 3d and I believe computer used content manager to open .cdp files but new computer doesn't know how to open .cdp files.
Files seem to be downloading in pop up window but nothing appears in download folder.
Any help would be much appreciated but please aim it at a 7 year old and his mum who is not too computer smart but can follow step by step instructions. Thanks

Evening Kevin+mum.
First thing to do is run trainz as Administrator. Also when downloading you need to be Admin apparently.
Also what is your build number. Start 2009, it should be bottom right of window.

Build number

Good evening fran1
Thanks for responding, we are using computer as administrator or do you mean some setting within the game?
Build number - Trainz Version 3 (Build 38869)

To download file from a website (like SI3D) and install:

1. Save the file instead off opening it right after the download.
2. Right-click on that file after it has downloaded and click on "Open With".
3. Find content Manager in the list, and make sure the "Always open this type of file with this program" box is ticked. Click Ok, and the file will open and install in TS2009 CMP.
After that, every CDP file will open in TS009 CMP when you double-click on it.
4. Commit everything that is for edit by pressing Ctrl + A and then Ctrl + M.
5. Download any dependencies required off the DLS into Trainz.

Open the game and enjoy the new install.!

Hope this is helpful to you Kevin!

BTW, Run as Administrator is not an option in game, but a computer setting which you are obviously already aware of and using.

In Windows 7, there is a difference between 'having an admin account' and 'running a program as administrator'.

This may also solve the 'unable to open .cdp files' issue.

To do this:

1.Right-click the shortcut used to open Trainz.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click Compatibility.
4.Click in the bottom tick-box (the one labelled 'run this program as an administrator') to place a tick - if there is already a tick present, leave it ticked.
5.Click OK.

As for the build number, an update can be downloaded for that version from http://www.justtrains.net/faqs.asp?drdProduct=205#Update393, which will bring it up to build 40040.

Once that is done, visit http://www.auran.com/servicepacks/#TS2009 and download the 40040 > 41844 patch, then run that to install it.

Note: The Just Trains version will require you to click the .. button on the patcher to select the correct folder (which is usually C:/Program Files/TrainzSimulator2009 or C:/Program Files (x86)/TrainzSimulator2009) - once that folder is selected, choose Trainz.exe to open.

I can simplify things if needed - just let me know if that is required.

Shane
