New Trees on the dls?

And thats why this guys routes lag on the awesomeness.... <snip>

<snip> Any route that NV3 includes in future versions of Trainz without Pofig's incredible trees will be well below the established standard for route creation.

So if I don't use Pofig's trees, my routes will be inferior and well below the established standard for route creation?

Even though I prefer the trees by McGuireL and Gawpo50 over Pofig's, I'm not going to make comments that basically put down the efforts of any route creator that doesn't use the trees that I prefer. I prefer what I prefer and you prefer what you prefer.

That said, I do think that Pofig's trees are good trees. I actually would likely mix some of Pofig's trees with trees by other creators if his trees were not as incompatible with them as they are. Pofig's trees' leaf textures have mipmapping disabled and so they have a strong sparkling/Moiré effect. This makes them stand out against trees by the other creators---which do not have mipmapping disabled and thus do not have the sparkling/Moiré effect---when you mix them together. This is not a criticism of Pofig's method of creating, but just a statement of why I haven't mixed them with the other trees that I use.

I think that Jankvis's payware SpeedTrees in the screenshots here are some of the best-looking ones I have ever seen. If I had enough money to spare, then I might purchase some of them and use them with the trees that I currently use.

Regards,

Zachary.

No. That was'nt the intention of my post.

There's a lot of great creators out there making high quality vegetation. I prefer some of Jankvis's stuff over pofig's. I was trying to make the point that NV3 needs to support $$ these creators to give them incentive to put their content on the DLS. NV3 can only use DLS content for their built-in routes with future versions. Thus built in routes will not take advantage of high quality speedtreez content.

NV3 has stated they would like to raise the bar on the quality of built-in routes in future versions of Trainz. They can't do that unless they $convense$ the best speedtreez creators to upload to the DLS.

So you're saying that Auran/N3V should provide incentives to tree makers and not to building makers to get them to put their creations on the DLS? Somehow tree makers are superior to other content creators?

Relax Derrick, I'm just "pulling your chain"!;)

No problem, :) but yeah that's kind of what I'm saying. There's not a shortage of high quality buildings on the DLS but there is a shortage of speedtreez.

Before Speedtree, every man and his dog used the "Greenery " selection of grass, bushes and trees on their routes, with a little note on the DLS saying "Available from WWW..greenery..com.. A third party site I might add.
But Pofigs trees are all available from his thread in the Freeware ssection. Why is this posing such a bigger problem for so many?

Once again, because some of us don't enjoy the Great KUID Chase or don't want to use content on sites that may be history in a week or a month, as is the case with so many Trainz sites. Even Pofig at one point threatened to take down his site. What would have happened to all the routes and sessions depending on Pofig's trees? And there are at least as good if not better options on the DLS. It's a win-win.

... and if NV3 wants to increase sales of the new version of Trainz over the last they need to include high quality routes with high quality speedtreez. So pay a talented creator to make some.

If anyone hasn't noticed all those trees have been uploaded again with credit given to pofig for the original meshes, wondering if the problem, if there was actually one has been resolved?

And now there are a new lot of' u3_EK' trees in the name of Sandrilyon which also look like Pofig trees but without the acknowledgement. The plot thickens!

Paul

Yes just seen the u3_EK ones, be helpful if Pofig as the copyright holder would confirm if these are OK to use or not, before too many users incorporate them in routes uploaded to the DLS and suddenly find they loads of complaints about missing dependencies as they have been removed!

I've also been avoiding downloading any non-dls stuff, so to finally get some more quality speedtrees on the dls is great news. They look stunning, on my system they seem to perform better than the built in speedtrees, and I would love to start using them in my routes.

I'm certainly not suggesting that there is anything dodgy here, but given some of the past discussions around third party speed trees, and particularly the licensing of the tools to create them, it would be nice to have some sort of confirmation from N3V or the creators themselves that they aren't in danger of being taken down because of any licensing/IP issues.

I agree with you regarding the licensing. I wonder if this is a language barrier issue since the uploader is from the Eastern Block. Their understanding of copyrights is a bit different than ours.
