New route in progress

Hi everyone.

Here is a little route I’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks. Stage one is taking shape quite nicely. The premise is a junction town where the two routes were built by different railroad companies. The double-track route simply runs a few miles east-west between staging yards, while all the action takes place on the single-track north-south railroad. Ultimately, my goal is to extend the single track many miles to the south, but for now, only the one town and an additional outlying industry a mile to the south will be included.

Although primarily for my own enjoyment, I’ll make it available on the DLS if there is any interest.

Here is a brief preview video I made last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3zOI_6UK5Q

Here are some progress photos: http://s920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/mpeterll/Wyefield Junction Progress/

I like it, some interesting uses of scenery and such, promises to be quite interesting, one observation if I may, don't use the old 'wooden' 04 track, there's much nicer stuff there, and if possible, just try to 'smooth' some of the sharpness from the hills, for a much prettier look - all in all, I like it, so keep at it, and I hope one day, to peruse your route on the DLS :)

Thank-you for the suggestions. I'm using "1 track wood US", which is the only TS2010 built-in track I've found that resembles US track with wood ties.
Which alternative track would you recommend?
I could download everything on the DLS and see what's there. I've read about a global track-replacement tool so I figure I can change it at any time.

Today is one of those days I realize why I don't have Trainz installed on any of my work computers...I'd never get anything done! :) lol.

I look forward to trying this out, and you do very good terrain work.

as for track, download philskene's "MP track wood V2." It's what i use on all my american routes. It looks great and, as a plus, is 0 poly's, so you can load up the place with it and not take a hit:)

just a thought.

josefpav (or one of those guys over at HP-Trainz) is the one who really deserves the credit for the good old MP track. It is a very nice track, and comes in rusty, concrete and concrete rusty versions. I use it for standard-gauge trackwork myself. Not sure what this version by philskene has, unless it is the bump-mapped version that I have seen in some screenshots. Nevertheless, I might have to check it out some day. :D

Any way, nice route there handlaidtrack. I like the city. ;)

Regards.

the only thing philskene did was change the kuid number so it wouldn't be obsoleted by the "Auran track TS2009 Jarrah" that was used to overwrite it on his routes built into TS2010. So basically, he made it TS2010 compatible. It is Josefpav's track, but if you use the version he made, the Jarrah track will overwrite it.

hope that helps any.

Yes, that helps; thanks. ;)

Ok, I've downloaded it. Now how do I use the "replace asset" tool? I've opened the window, but haven't been able to get anything into it. I can drag it about on the screen and use the "this section only" button at the bottom, but otherwise the window seems to be immune to my mouse and keyboard.

Click on the "Get" tool or find the track you are currently using in the Track menu of Surveyor. Open the Replace window and click-'n'-drag that item into the left, larger pane. Then select the new track in the Track menu and click-'n'-drag that into the right pane and click Replace. Check your work and see if you like it.

Hi,

When you attempt to drag the track, do not drag it from the picture of the track. That will not work. Drag the track name from the list above the picture.

Bernie

OK, done.
It also doesn't work dragging it from the name at the top of the list. As the favorites filter was on and my track was not listed as 5-stars, the name did not appear in the list.

I'm not sure whether or not I like the effect. It looks too well manicured for yard and secondary tracks, but I might keep it for the main lines. Either way, I'm going to have to figure out how to re-skin whatever track I end up using, so that I can match the ballast colors.
With the new track, there's very little of the background color left between the tracks, making it even more important to create multiple versions to differentiate between tracks.

I have placed two comparison photos in the album.

Click "Next" for the same view with the original track

you can't drag it from the search pane (the little rectangle where you can type) you have to drag it from the actual list below. don't worry, i had the same problem first couple times:D

I just tried replacing the built-in Auran Track in the Detroit Connecting RR (TS2010) with philskene's MP Track Wood V2 (using replace assets) and all I got was a white path with rails. No ties or ballast. Can anyone tell me why? Could the change over be made by editing the Route config. file?

hmm, that's weird. I'm not sure, but i know to make it work, you have to take search filters off. that sometimes gets in the way. I don't think the config thing would work, but you can surely try.
