New River Train

Considered to be the ultimate in mainline excursions, the Collis P. Huntington Chapter of the NRHS has organized the "New River Train". For over 40 years, this train has hauled many riders over 147 miles of former C&O track through the New River Gorge between Huntington and Hinton. Even with the many ownership changes of C&O becoming Chessie and eventually CSX, the trip still runs every October during the heart of the fall foliage.

The excursion also became popular for mainline steam, with several engines put in charge. The main star was Nickel Plate 765, leading the train for nine years in the late 80s and early 90s.

So I am curious if anyone has ridden on this train sometime in the past. I'd be curious to see how the ride is today even with standard P42s now in charge
