New content, where/how?

At the startup screen there is 'new content' (3rd option from top). If I click it I go to a page where I can make several selections. I am interested in and looking at 'sessions' under 'premium content' with status 'not owned'. So the question ultimately is... What premium content are we talking about here? Do I need some sort of subscription for that (probably), and if so wich one would be enough?

Welcome to the forums and to Trainz.

The premium content is content that is available via the Content Store. This is DLC (Downloadable Content) packs such as complete routes and sessions, consists, locomotives, and so on. With Platinum, you have access to some packs already and if you haven't downloaded them you should do so.

To download your entitled packs, click on Content Store. Wait for the screen to load, then click on the Purchased icon located in the top right corner.

To purchase other content, click on Store icon, the Content Store defaults to Store when you start.

When downloading, click on only a few items at a time, otherwise, things will lock-up, which many of us have found out the hard way. After you've downloaded, you may see View Error on a button. Don't worry, there is no error. Click on the View Error, and then click on cancel and the error will go away. This is caused by a glitch in the system.

The other kind of content is user-made assets and these are available on the Download Station. You access these assets, there about 600K or more available these days. These assets are free and many are quite nice. There is a small subscription called a First Class Ticket (FCT) to allow you to download unlimited amounts of assets as a higher speed, otherwise, without an FCT, the speed is limited and the amount is limited to 100MB per day. As a new user, you may have a trial FCT. I don't remember if it needs to be activated or not. They are available for purchase through My Trainz, and are inexpensive plus N3V has them on sale often.

To access this content, use Manage Content, aka Content Manager. To find assets available for download, scroll the box that says Installed (arrow on the right), to Download Station. I highly recommend adding in all the columns by right-clicking on the a column and choosing the various items. You can resize (you have to do that), and arrange them how you like. Once you've gather all the columns, left-click on them to sort ascending and descending. In this particular instance, Upload Date is important and you want to sort that so the latest date is shown which is 06-Aug-2021 for me, but it maybe 07-Aug-2021 for you.

To download something you like, such as a freight wagon or one of the wonderful assets my creations_mistral_69, right-click on the asset and choose download. You can highlight multiple assets, right-click, and download a bunch all in one shot.

I hope this helps to get you started. There's a lot see and do and we've barely scratched the surface. Don't be shy in asking questions here. We will all jump in and help.

Hello and Welcome. For me, when new, I was confused by conversations about "DLS" (Download Station), "CM" (Content Manager), "Store," Payware, Freeware and possibly others. John covered them above very well but let me summarize quickly:
• You'll find the DLS (Download Station) on your website account page. You can login and see basically same thing as the "CM". If you are using TRS-19 only, "CM" has virtually replaced DLS so you likly might never use it.
• CM is "in game" and it shows all the user Freeware available to download. Freeware includes everything you see in a route. Freeware may be a Route, a Session, A Loco, Boxcar, person, duck, snake, building, newspaper with creators name it it (Easter Eggs), etc.
• Many freeware routes are as good as better as Payware so don't be in a hurry to buy until you have a need.
• STORE is also now "in game." As John says above, pay attention to the 3 "buttons" at top right. "Purchased" will also include anything you are entitled to. Not only what you actually purchase.

In time, even though people in forums sometimes say "go to the DLS" you'll automatically know that this is the Freeware in the Content Manager. They will say that becuase older versions of Trainz do not have an in game CM so they actually do need to go to "DLS." That term is just "generic" for DLS and CM.

- I'm sick today so that's my excuse if there is a mistake my reply! I often confuse myself :)

Oh, another tip:
- Read the forums daily if you want to learn a LOT. The scope of Trainz/TRS19 is amazing. From Driving, to Making layouts, to making individual assets, to scripting.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Well, I'm not exactly new to trainz, I've owned ot for about 2 years now. However, everytime I look at it I am put off by the fact that I can't easily access or get a driveable scenario/session. So then it gets shelved again for a few months....

So for me, that screen I'm talking about is new. It gives me an overview of sessions that should be available 'somewhere'. It tells me the route I need for it. Yet I can't simply click that session shown and download it, or click and buy whatever I need for it. The search on download station also doesn't give me those sessions... So I'm still at a loss here. This is the screen I am talking about:

You're welcome, Sir. I understand your frustration. The interface is not very intuitive and overwhelming.

I recommend ignoring this screen since this is nothing but advertisements for payware within the main screen and do what we recommended. It's a lot less cluttered and far easier to navigate.
