for those of you that are amd fans like i am, the new fx series cpu's have been released the highest being an 8 core,i know trainz doesnt use more than 2 cores but the clock speeds for these cpu's are up to high as 3.8 ghz stock with a 4.5 ghz turbo boost which should help trainz run better, and also runs stock memory at 1866 mhz which is a step up.the cpu's also come with stock watercoolers , which has never been released with a cpu before, completely enclosed system.

Sounds cool.

You don't need to be an AMD or Intel fan to know that competition is good for us all.;)
well intel for the most part has always been on top, but has always been the most expensive, i am always looking for more bang for your buck, and around 250 for a 8 core cpu that broke the worlds record at little over 8ghz is my bang for my buck lol, of course that was with nitro, but you could probably break 5 ghz on air bu what i have read

The reviews are not that good on it.

in all the benchmarks i have seen it barely trails the 980 extreme i7 and the 2600k, i would say thats a big step up for amd since it is has been pretty far behind intel for along time, there are gonna be 4 phases over the next 2 years that will keep close to intel, but i imagine the ivybride will blow it away,i dont know about you , but would you want to pay 1,000 for a 980x extreme intel or around 300 for the 8 core, i dont know about you but i am on a budget, and the bulldozer broke the world record of over 8ghz, i would say thats pretty impressive.

Problem is its no better the the 1090T i have, bit of a disappointment, it looks like AMD are going to loose a lot of customers over this, especially when it seems that AMD engineers are coming out and saying that they knew they wouldnt perform.

I think Bulldozer is an unfortunate name to give to a CPU. Bulldozers are powerful but very slow and consume a lot of fuel.

The problem with the FX-8150 is not that it can't perform. There are benchmarks where it beats the 2600K.

It is very inconstant depending on what you are doing.

There are several reasons for this but one of them is that its efficiency, how much work it gets per clock cycle is low. Even at 3.8GHz each core only performs as well as each of the 3.0 GHz cores in my 940 I have in my computer.

In order to see the power of the 8150 you need to have something that has many threads, (Not Trainz) and you need to have something that uses mostly integer match. (Not Games in general. If you wonder why integer math then look up the bulldozer architecture. Every pair of cores share an FPU.)

This means that the FX-8150 is not a very good gaming CPU.

I have been waiting for the bulldozer chips. My computer needs an update. I have had an AMD CPU in my computer since the late 90's but I do mostly games and I don't want to update to a chip that will not be that much better then what I have. I went to the Intel 2600k. The motherboard arrives Monday.

It makes me sad, Intel sucked big time when they thought they didn't have competition. If AMD can't figure itself out again we will be stuck with Intel by itself and they will suck again. Unfortunatly I am not able to wait for the next AMD.
