Be professional, and strictly safety minded ... most RR'ers do not like "Rail Enthusiasts" and "Foamers" ... they take their job extremely seriously, come to work, do the job safely, and go home again at the end of their shift, and generally do not railfan.

Most RR'ers do have an avid love RR's ... but be professional, serious & safe !

Be prepared for complex all day testing, and examinations.

Also prepare for your professional responces when asked: "Why do you want to work for the RR" ?

If you mention, Example: I run "Trainz" simulator, and "I want to be able to run the big Locomotive" they will have second thoughts.

A good responce would be: "I know that I am perfect physical condition, and am highly able to perform the specialized job skill with the highest degree of safety, and I am looking forward to extensive training, job title advancement and a lifelong career.

When asked about smoking, drinking ... Say absolutely NO !

Do not come in smelling of Tobacco ... and use Binaca minty clean breath freshener.

Drug urinalisys, and Tobacco blood analisys testing may be part of the follow up interview.

Be prepared to be bumped and relocated often in, at least, the first 3 years, with little time off duty.

PS: Congradulations !!!

Well.....

Haircut, shave, clean clothes, maybe a suit and tie.

Shoes shined.

A one (1) page resume of your school and work history. More than 1 page will bore them quickly.

Be polite, say Thank You.

Answer their questions to the best of your ability, if you don't know the answer, tell them that. They will quickly know if you are BS'ing them.

At the end, thank them again for the opportunity to speak with them.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Regards,

thanks guys. i was definitely thinking of wearing a suit and tie. and thanks cascade, metioning to them that i'm a railfan would not be good.

how about what questions will they ask, like someone told me they will ask alot about safety.

Regarding safety....

Answer the safety questions by saying you will learn and read all the safety guides they can supply prior to being accepted.

Ask them for a few of the main safety guides during the interview. That MAY show them you are interested in safety now and in the future.

Last, think about the question(s) they ask before you answer, but don't take too long.

EDIT: Don't be chewing gum or go outside to smoke (if you do) before the interview.
