I have TS12 fully patched and running fine, registered etc.

I would like to rebuild this machine (or replace) but I no longer have a usable trainz cd. Not sure if the dog ate it or what, but is it possible to get a copy?

I have my existing serial so I dont think it would be a piracy thing...

Anyone know how to to do this?

Thanks in advance!

You may not need to, as some users have had luck by simply copying the whole Trainz folder onto an external hard drive then onto a new system.

Or put the drive in the new comp.

if you copy folder to the computer may not function fully. if insert the hard drive into new system the os won't work on the new system unless the computer is the same as the other computer. your only hope is finding a cd somewhere.

Later versions normally work OK if copied across, provided that the new system has the required DirectX and .Net Framework files installed.

TRS2006 is a different matter as there are settings for Content Manager stored in the registry.

You might want to check and see if, having purchased a physical copy, you can get access to the a digital download for your Trainz, and relevant patches. This would allow you to prepare your own replacement media.

I would note that my experience does not match rubenjrios83's, in that I have both successfully copied Trainz folders to a different drive, and inserted a drive containing Trainz into a new computer that was not the same as the old one, and had the game function normally without incident.

Disclaimer: Do not spindle. Batteries not included. Keep all medicines out of reach of children. Use of Trainz may be habit forming; do not operate a motor vehicle while using this product. Your mileage may vary.

Recently I purchased an SSD drive specifically to run this game on (and boy did it make a huge difference). All I had to do was move the N3V directory over to the new location and change some file dependencies to reflect the new location.

I did not have to make registry changes.

The sive of this game as it is now in those directories is approaching 50 Gig though.

Since I was considering a replacement of this PC I was hoping to do a clean install, patch fully and reintroduce those assets and routes as I am currently using.

Too much overhead with the past stuff.

I am an IT engineer in real life so making the required IT changes is easy, I was just hoping to have a fresh start.

One of the biggest reasons to consider the fresh start is that A) I can rarely merge routes event though I ensure route/session names differ. I ensure regions are the same as is water type. I follow the advice of everything I read concerning this and I still cant seem to have much luck.

The existing system is Windows 7 64 bit with 8 gig memory and an Nvidia Video card with 1 gig memory and an i5 CPU. I should have to memory/processor issues but something isnt liking it.

ok i think rubenjrios83 is trying to say is that if the HDD that trainz is on is the same drive that the OS is on & putting the drive in to another PC & using it the HDD as the OS for the new PC then yes it may have problems but is you put the HDD as a slave HDD with aother HDD as the OS then your all fine :)

...I did not have to make registry changes...

TS12 has (as far as I can see from a quick look) only 1 registry entry, which is for Content Manger and should be a doddle for anyone who is confident with regedit and is probably not essential anyway.

...Too much overhead with the past stuff...I was hoping to do a clean install, patch fully and reintroduce those assets and routes as I am currently using...

Not 100% sure on this but anything added to TS12, probably with the exception of the patches, is in the UserData > Local folder so, in theory, deleting the contents of this folder - plus any dependency links, may do the trick. May take a bit of sorting out - assuming you have the disc space or can add some :hehe: - have a try on the existing PC.

...I can rarely merge routes event though I ensure route/session names differ...

I think this is a bug in TS12, N3V have announced that a service pack is coming "Soon" TM.

I don't see what you are getting at here, what exactly is your question/problem (apart from the 50 Gig install size) ?

...Not sure if the dog ate it or what...

True IT professional, blame the dog ! If it comes to the worst, put the dog on short rations to pay for a new CD...

Slight corrections here...

Firstly, there are up to 7 registry entries, and all are file association related. For those who are not comfortable with setting these, my Trainz Protocol Changer tool will sort it.

Secondly, it's Userdata/Original and Userdata/Local that store the majority of the content, apart from payware DLC content, which normally installs into the Builtin folder.

Copied and pasted with 2010 and 2012, only needs a new launcher on the desktop.

Not sue if useing someone elses disks, with the key that you were given, would work. Someone here may advise if that would be successful or not.

If you need to replace disks and ypu have a little money then you can obtain TRAINZ 10th Anniversary Edition at Simulator Central store for $22.46 AUD. Still on offer now but for how long i am not sure. Being in America you may have to wait a short time for delivery.
Who knows, you might be lucky enough to get a Gold Ticket.

Andrew.

You could always install the current hard drive into the new machine as a secondary drive...

Spot on!!! As Fran has said, all you need to do is copy the complete TS2012 directory onto one of the new computers hard drives, then make a new desktop ICON; Trainz.exe (TS2012). (or to start the Sim from the TS2012 directory, just double left click on the file: Trainz.exe)...

You shouldn't need to touch/change anything in the registry...

I've done this on at least three separate occasions (put TS2012 onto some of my other computers) and it's worked without a hitch every time...

Don't re-format your old HHD until you have made sure TS2012 is working properly on your new computer... or as someone has suggested, just install the HDD that has your existing TS2012 on, into your new computer. Then all you need to do is make a TS2012 desktop icon, so you can launch TS2012 from your new computers desktop... (Trainz.exe)

Cheers, Mac...

I have the game now installed to its own SDD drive. Nothing else is on this drive (except the various CDP's notes, add ons etc...) Placing this into a new pc and doing the registry changes is the least difficult.

I made some small progress on merging routes, and I am on the right track but its not a good solution.
I took a route I created (Hump yard with local industries 12 or so baseboards) and could not merge for the life of me, always crashed. I then removed all trees, shrubs and un-needed bldgs I merged just fine. I then had to re add them but it did get them merged. Its been mentioned several time that there is a bug, and I can see it happening with various tools, (too many objects for the system to handle at once) and it just halts.

I do hope they fix it soon.
