Need Help On Texturing

Hi right now I'm building the Henderson Valley Lines and I need some help on texturing the route, I know that it's still in the alpha stages but I want some ideas thanks in advance.
 
Use dark greens and browns for under placement of forests and tree groups, dark greys for docks, light browns, greys and reds for ballast, light browns for road shoulders, dark blues, greens and black for deep underwater and lighter shades for shallows...

There are many textures on DLS for the above and more including field crops, hedge rows, fence rows.

You might also experiment with cluttermeshes...
