Need help from all people who know about Maine railroads

might be back?
I am working on a Maine Route. The question that I have is, what roads run in Maine. I know that until 2003, BAR ran up there, and that there is Maine Central, but what else runs up there? Thanks very much.

Maine DOT

Yes, it is a nice website, nicer thn some other states I have had to deal with. Of course if you ask an older resident of Maine the response will likely be to the efect of: "Of course, those fools in Augusta wasted all that money on it, it had beter be good." Best of luck on your project, don't hesitate to ask for additional information.

Both my fiance and I would love to move to Maine when we get out of college. It is such a beautiful state. Right now we live in Pennsyltucky. It's beautiful, but we both prefer Maine.

I have also learned the sad truth about TRS BTW. There is a signifigant shortage of New England RR stuff.

Depends on if you're aiming for a certain area or general Maine. I have a couple of New England books, a general map shows
BAR on a North-South route between Searsport and Fort Kent.
CP had a line across the middle.
MEC had tracks in southern Maine.
GT came in by way of Gorham, NH and went to Portland. Since GT shared power with CV, you could mix CV-GT units. Also both were once involved with CN so you could have older CN power.
BM came from Boston to Portland.
Sometimes BM and CV had power pools, same with BM & MEC.

Today, MMA has the former BAR and CP lines.
I believe Guilford has the BM & MEC tracks.
I don't know who if anyone has the GT line.

A good site to bookmark is this
http://trains.rockycrater.org/pfmsig/index.php
They have state by state maps listed at the link "1948 Atlas" showing the lines.

Thank you very much. I wish that the BAR was still around. I luckily got the honor of working on an ex BAR BL2 over the summer. Good old engine 54.

I'm working on a fictional general Maine route BTW.

Thanks for all of the info.
