Need help editing...

I am new to TRAINZ 2006. I have read the directions several times but still cannot make heads or tails out of how to create or edit engines (GE 44 Ton Switcher to start with).

Can anyone help out... with simple directions on how to customize.

Thank you!

There are no simple directions to custimize, only varying degrees of increasing complexity. But the 44t is an easy one to start experimenting with. Select one of the 44t's in CMP and clone it to make your own copy. Open up the file for edit in explorer and open the config file. Change the name indicated after the tag username to a name of your choice, ie username "my loco name". Make sure the kuid number reflects your own identification number. Now look for the main loco graphic file. In this case it will be in a folder labelled 44t ce_body, or something similar. Look for a bmp or tga file named 'main' or something similar. In this case it is probably 44t wm75_main.tga. Dont change any of these names. Open up the file in a good graphics editor like Photoshop, or PaintshopPro, or TheGimp, or even the built-in Microsoft paint problem, and modify the graphic file to suit your taste. Save it and then go look at the loco to see what you have done. There is a program called Trainz Object Explorer which allows you to look at what you are doing as you go along without always opening the game and I think it is freeware.

When you are ready to share your results with the community, make sure you have the permission of the original author first.

Downloading and reading the CCG from Auran for TRS2006 is also a good idea.
