Need a little help with my first download

Hello, I am new to Trainz (and lovin' it)
I am trying to install my first piece of downloaded content. A locomotive.

I believe I downloaded it correctly from Download Station. It indicated it was downloaded. I then clicked on it and moved it and one dependant file to the assets list. Not sure what happened then, I find the Help very unclear. It told me I should open Trainz until I had 'commited' the asset. But I couldnt find much in Help re Commitment.

Anyhow I believe it is there. I have opened Surveyor (believe that is the next step) and I did find it in the list. However no thumbnail shows and I can't add it to the route.

Can anyone indicated what I am doing wrong? Also, do I have to save some kind of scenario before I can see my loco in Railyard?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

hi Amazonas, and welcome. What version of Trainz are you using?

To 'Commit' select the asset in question then from the top menu 'Edit > Commit'.

Locomotives often need many parts to work properly. Is there a yellow icon with a questionmark (?) associated with the asset in the CMP list? If so you are missing dependencies, which occassionally are not found on the DLS. to help further we need the 'kuid' ID of the missing bits...

Andy :)

ok, go to the area of cmp where it say'd open to edit,
when you see your loco click on it them hit the control button ctrl & c button at the same time

Thanks for both your responses. No progress I'm afraid.
Dermmy. I am using Trainz 2006. I found the Commit menu item but it is greyed out.
Yes there is a dependancy, but I'm trying to load that also.
Ct Krogen. Following your instruction to hit Open to Edit the Commit menu item ceased to be greyed out and I was able to Commit.
However the result is still the name. The name appears in Surveyor and also in Railyard, but no picture and no loco appears.
So regretfully I still don't know what part is missing. Thanks.

Right-click on it in CMP and select 'View Dependencies' (or something very like that) from the pop-up menu and the missing items will be highlighted with a '?' icon in the list that appears. Post the missing kuid numbers...

I think what you are saying is that they must be addition dependent files that I need. This indeed proved to be true. When I viewed dependencies there were about seven of them. I downloaded them all and acheived partial success. I can now see the model ! So I know what was wrong there. Unfortunately the texture is missing on some of the model. When I look in CMP I see an exclamation mark next to 5 of the files indicated that they are faulty. That must be the cause.
Maybe I need to try downloading a different model.
Thanks for your help.

that missing texturer shoudl have a kuid number post that number and some
oone should know who has it bytw which loco was you installing
