Need A Bit Of Help With SPORBUST Auto Running Numbers

hoborailcat

Backdating is fun.
Just wondering if anyone could help me out a bit. I'm trying to modify the ARN range of one of the SPORBUST SD70ACe's for a private reskin, so I figured I'd change the number_low and number_high values, as this works on the JR engines I've done this to. Unfortunately, doing this causes the reskin to lose its ARN in game. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong and can lend a hand I'd appreciate it.

Give us a hint... what kuid are you working with?

But... I'm betting you cloaned the loco. If that is the case...

Change this line in the config file...

arn_data-113556

You must change the 113556, sporbusts' kuid, to whatever your kuid is.

Changing the arn_data did the trick. I'm turning a clone of the KCS SD70ACe into an NS SD70ACe. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I am having the same problem with 2 engines I've cloned and repainted for personal use; SPorBUST's FEC SD70 and Ben Neal's SD16. I have changed the "arn_data-xxxxxx" to my KUID but still no Auto Running Numbers get displayed. Trying in both TS2010 and TS2012 with no luck...Do you think that TS10 and TS12 are the problem, or is it something directly related to ARN?

FWIW, Ben Neal's SD16 does not display the Auto Running Numbers in it's "updated to 2.9" configuration either. (originally 2.0, I think).

There are a million other threads about how to fix Sporbust's locos..... find one of the other threads, and there is something about a "fonts-path mesh" line that needs o be added. Any of the later builds of Trainz (I think TS09+) needs to have this added and I believe there is another thing that needs deleted to update and have working ARN. You can't do it in CCP, you have to text edit it from Explorer. CCP will mung it up beyond repair. Best bet on the SD70 is to download one of the ones that Chris (N8PHU) has already fixed and uploaded to the DLS, and use that as a base for your skin.

I'm sure it is the same fix for Ben's loco.

Well, searching with keywords "auto running number" does not provide information on "Font-path-mesh", so I thank you for that key bit of info, and respectfully point out that "a million other threads" on the subject are not always able to be found using vBulletin search engines (regardless of whos forum it is).

Text editing is no problem, as I prefer that method anyway. I don't actually "clone" items I repaint, I open for edit, copy to an external folder, re-commit the original, then edit the external copy to suit my preferences and import my reworked files back to Trainz. Have had pretty good success so far.

Thanks again for the "Fonts-Path mesh" lead.

That last comment was quite rude.

Here's how to search the Forums:
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?98710-How-To-Search-the-Forums-Using-Google

Kieran.

If saying "thank you" is "rude" to you...well, nothing I can add will ever do.

But FWIW, unless someone KNOWS what keywords to use, your thread on "how to search" is also "not found".

btw, I personally find it rude when someone with knowledge replies with "there are a million other threads on the subject....go search for them", but I did appreciate that he threw me a bone with the "key words" to search with (which actually have turned up zilch so far), so I THOUGHT I left a pleasant reply of "Thank You".. Generally speaking, this site is much more pleasant than the "Train-Sim" forums, but I guess there are always a few guys that think they are superior because they have more knowledge, and that gives them a right to be jerks when someone asks for information that they can not find on their own.

SORRY TO BE IN NEED OF HELP, jerk. (24 posts in 12 months...2 questions a month, because MOST times, I do find what I need with a search; ie, I know how to do a thorough internet search)

Well, maybe I misinterpreted the last sentence. Sorry. I thought you were being sarcastic.

The idea of the thread was for it to be made a Sticky, but that did not happen.

See if something here helps. :)

Edit: I hope the 'J' word was not aimed at me.

Kieran.

I accept your apology, acknowledge the "jerk" comment was directed soley at you (the entire post was a reply to you assuming I was being rude to someone that helped me {slabay}, so not sure how that was confusing <--sarcasm :hehe: ), and apologize for being a bit thin-skinned myself. I wish you the best, and happily move on to other things.

For Slabay; again, I sincerly thank you. The "font-path mesh" keyword search did find a solution to the SPorBust SD70, but sadly, not the BDANeal SD16.

Glad it gave you somewhere to start. I just did a quick look and didn't find the SD16 at all, much less any way to fix it (but then, many nights I have a hard time finding my keys so I can go to work:hehe:) The same solution to fix Frank's (Sporbust) loco didn't also fix Ben's? The problem is that the loco's are older (TS04 or TS06), and updating them to TS09 (needed to fix faulty assets) breaks ARN because of the different way that it is addressed in the configs in later versions.

I think I had just got home from work some time around 4am when I posted my original response, which is why I wasn't very detailed in my response (it is 4:30am now, so I'm probably not terribly informative right now either;)), but I'll agree with you: the built in search isn't terribly useful. Google is a heck of a lot better. When you learn to tune up your google searches, it really becomes much more useful than the built in search:

"sporbust arn fix site:forums.auran.com"

will restrict Google to only searching the Trainz forums. Here's a HUUUUUUUUUGE image with some more tricks.

I believe I got the SD16 directly from Ben's "subpar" site, possibly even an archieved version using "way back". In Surveyor, clicking the "?" shows a number being assigned, it's just that the numbers do not display on the actual mesh. It is setup a little differently than Frank's, in that there is no "numbers.im" that loads seperately from the loco mesh. I'll keep looking, or just do a limited number of "pre-numbered" units. I just thought it would be a neat addition to my private HTCX fleet (Hoffmeier Transport Corp - Hoffmeiertransport [dot] com).

As an aside, Frank's SD70 is 85%...I can manually assign a number in surveyor, and have it display on the loco, but I have still not gotten it to automatically assign AND display. I can get it to auto-assign, but it won't display. Comparing the Config.txt to Sureshot's CSX SD70Ace (plain and weathered), I find not a single difference, short of the Horn, the Bogies and the Interior I changed/used. I can't see where those items would affect the numbers.im, but I don't know a whole lot about Trainz Content Quirks just yet, so...

I had thought maybe something in the ARN_SFX script was different, so I copied the one from the CSX SD70Ace, but got no change.

KingConrail76, have you had a look at n8phu's website (http://www.theerectinghall.info/)? If you click on the "Fixing With Hack" link therein, you can find quite a lot of useful info for getting locos running, including information on auto running numbers in the last two of the series. He seems to relish this sort of thing ... :)

I had visited his site in the past. That's what gave me the courage to try fixing some of these things myself to begin with. It has been a while though, so I think I'll go re-read the info and see what I can learn. Thanks for the reminder.

Well, a clear mind and fresh eyes found a set of double ""quotes"" in the CLASS entry of SPorBust's SD70, which for some reason did not create an error in CM until today. (in a nutshell, I don't know what I fixed, but it is working 100% now...lol)
Thanks for all the help guys.
On to the "Subpar" SD16...
