on trainz 2004 i made a basic loop track with a single track and two sections of double track. imagine a square not a circle, I have 4 stations one each side. now I want my train to leave station one in a forward direction stop at each station then go onto first station. Now it goes forward to station two then station three, then four, instead of then going forward on to station one, it goes backwards towards three to get to one. Why is it doing this how do i fix it?

You need to use directional markers - these are the yellow arrows. They need to point so the arrow part of it is pointing in the direction you want the train to go. These are on the same tab as tracks and signals - click the third button across instead.

I'm assuming you have the consist oriented in the correct position. Is the green arrow pointing over the engine towards the first station? Are you doing this as an AI? Are your commands in proper order?

If you are starting off on a double track section, what do you have set as the country of origin ?
USA & most of Europe run opposite track to UK, not sure of Oz, so depends in which direction loco will think is correct.

Let say you laid your track in a clockwise direction then the train will travel that way by defult no matter which way you put the train on the track.
Say you put the train facing counter clockwise then the train will start backing up even if your station is right in front of him.
You can change this in surveyor by slecting trains tab(f7)then click consist mode, Then the red & green arrows, then click the train.
Now when you start the train will go forward to the 1st station like you wanted.

It is because the AI is taking the shortest path. You have to use a trackmark on the other side of the loop and then use the navigate via trackmark command.

Just a tip, when using track markers allways place them past the halfway point to the next stop (or next marker if more than one)and for AI directions use "Drive via Marker" then drive to next stop.

Thanks guys, I worked out another thing, if there is a consist attached train will go correct direction and stop all stations loading and unloading. if no consist loco always pulls up just on entry to platform. and on station 4, this is with no loading or unloading commands. it then will go backwards to station 1. interesting. well all fixed thanks
