Getting Older :)
Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the best place for this so I would be happy if it is moved to somewhere more suitable. I am also not sure if someone has already posted something similar but my (and the HelpDesk) searches did not find any similar answer.

For some weeks now I have been having problems with TRS2006. After many attempts to get it working again, some help from the HelpDesk and some more help from a previous Thread of mine I now have everything working. I am not sure if this will help others but it could so here goes;
  1. I purchased a new FCT and when activated it showed on the DLS and in TC, but not in 2006. CMP has not worked (in 2006) since then, yet I had some access to 2006 for built-in content, but CMP worked in TC.
  2. I had my computer updated while I was "away", and I had hoped that this would help in some way.
  3. Contacted HelpDesk and started a thread for help.
  4. Everything should be fine, my Firewall was set correctly, I followed all instructions exactly.
  5. Uninstalled 2006 and reinstalled it a number of times and still could not get into CMP and see anything. I was always told my user name and password where not correct or where not the same as in my profile.
  6. Changed my Password and uninstalled/reinstalled 2006 and still CMP would not work.
  7. Still had the same problem with 2006 CMP not working but TC CMP was working.
  8. A thought struck me about TC 3 and when it would arrive and if I would still have the same problems.
  9. The more I thought about this and my 2006 CMP problem I wondered if I should uninstalled TC as well.
  10. That is what I have spent most of my day doing (especially after TC3 arrived).
  11. I uninstalled everything (except 2004) and reinstalled them in ORDER that they where released.
  12. Reinstalled 2006, then TC1 & 2, then TC3.
  13. Now everything is working the way it should ...... CMP now likes me :Y:   :p
I have no idea if this will help anyone else with a similar problem, but it certainly helped me and solved a problem I have struggled with for weeks.

Hope this helps someone.

Great news Craig !
Did your 2006 include the SP1 , if not at what point did you install it ?

My 2006 did not have SP1 installed so for each attempt I had to install it as per the instructions. I have the disk for SP1 so I copied that to my Hard Drive as in the instructions and went from there.

I am not to sure if my idea will help others but then again it may.

I worked out that it has taken me 7 weeks to get 2006 and CMP working properly. Others may have a similar problem so going through this process my take 4-5 hours which is far better then struggling for 7 weeks.

There is also a problem which I saw weeks ago and could not get to work properly and that is there are 2 CMP's to work with, one for 2006 and the other for TC so your firewall needs to cover both of these.

Again, the only way I found to correct this was to uninstall and reinstall everything. For some reason adjusting my firewall manually did not solve this problem. I have no answer for this and again I am not sure if this will solve any problems but it worked for me and hopefully it may help others.

Craig just one simple question, which firewall are you using ? The reason why I am asking is that I have never had a problem with 06/CMP/firewall. Now that TC series is about with an updated version of CMP, or atleast TC3 and 09 will be, will be interesting to hear of which software/hardware firewall is being used. Personally I'm using AVG and the stock model from Windows Vista, bit of an overkill I know but 06 and CMP works fine for me

Hi moggy,

I am using AVG 8.0 Internet Security. The reason behind the 2 settings for CMP is that they are in 2 separate directories by default, one for 2006 and the other for TC so they need to point to a different path for each. This was about my limit on such things and I thought if I placed everything under 1 directory I would end up with further problems.

I have only just upgraded to AVG just over a month ago and this was the only answer I could come up with. I must admit I am no "expert" in these matters but it works this way.

As I said my first problem started when I purchased a new FCT and that was before AVG was installed. At first neither program would work until I thought about it a bit more.

To me the problem seemed to be the way in which each program was installed, and once I started at the beginning everything seemed to fall into place and now I have both working.

As I said I am no great "expert" at this but as the saying goes "if it works, why change it" :hehe:

Hope this helps,

Craig
