MS Animated points

Hi guys

Probably something I've missed, but I got some of the MS animated points off the DLS but they don't seem to want to play.

The actual point object sets onto the tiles OK but you can't add the switch blades to it and if you try and connect any type of track to the base point (even MS super detailed) TRAINZ crashes out immeadiatly with no error messages straight back to Windows!

Any thoughts?

Most likely they're built for a version different from yours. On problems of this nature, more information is always helpfull.

Not much more information I can give.

The MS 20 and 40 ft points and crossings are listed on DLS as for TRS2004 so surely should work in 2006 (VER2.6 Build 3337)

The points involved are 20 and 40 ft left, right and crossing. The base of the point apears in Sceanary, Fixed Track and lays onto the base board ok. It can be manuvered and rotated without problem

The animated switch blades appear in Track, Track Objects ok but cannot be attached to any item at all, they just do not appear on the board.:o

While the point base sits on the board ok, if you try to connect ANY form of track to it's end verticies Trainz black screens and goes straight to Windows. Now "fatal error", "stack error", Illeagal this that or the other and no error messages or dialogue.:(

That's as much as I can tell.

That's more descriptive, we now know what version you're running, but the kuids of the objects would be helpful also. I can't find them so can't replicate the problem.

I'm afraid that's a big assumption.

The code for fixed points was always a contentious issue, and the early points actually exploited a loophole in Trainz to get them to work, and was never supported by Auran.

This meant that as future versions were released, these were fixed by Auran, and some clever assets that used these unofficial features stopped working.

I can't remember the exact time-line of all these changes, but it sounds as though you may be using an asset that will only work for the version of Trainz that it was created for.

Your best bet would be to check out Andi06's junction kit.
These work perfectly, and have many added features.

HTH.

Do you mean MB points by Mike10. I can't find any MS points on the DLS. If you do, then they will only work with original Trainz and UTC since the code was changed for 2004. A better bet is to use Andi06's animated points. Once you've learnt how to use them, they are no problem to install. Alternatively wait for 2009 when we may have proper fixed track points that can just be plugged in as required

You're absolutely right Teddytoot.

I did mean the MB points, sorry ran out of personal available memory at a crucial typing point!

Thanks for the advice chaps, it's disappointing they don't work (mind you I still run UTC so I might try and slot them into the Birmingham and Tamworth route I'm part way through in UTC) but at least it's not something I've done wrong for a change!:o

I'll look up the later point kits and give them a try when me mate delivers me new "gamed up" lap top as the ol Petium4 in the current PC is starting to smoke a bit with the things I've been attempting in 2006, cough, cough, where's me fire extinguisher?

CHEERS!
