Do you guys think Amtrak will ever order this right here?

With this economy, and the way Amtrak's situation is with High ridership, more passengers, and less security(for now :P), I seriously doubt that it will get engines anytime soon. I may be wrong... anyways, isn't that a commuter engine? I'd say that there are a few differences between InterCity engines and local commuter engines.

I kinda doubt it...that's why they have thir F59PHI's.

(Hopefully by the time that they need replacing, EMD will have a new passenger motor! ;) )

Those look just like F59PHI's...I always thought that GO had F59PHI's, but I guess that's what you get when you think stuff before finding info:p :hehe:

Really; why do you ask? Do you think someone here has some inside information concerning Amtrak motive power acquisitions? You are asking for our opinion, our "best guess"?

It's everyone's opinion. P.s. sorry I didn't resond anytime sooner I was at school and posted this thread very early in the morning and I just got back from open house at my school.

Amtrak's version of the MP40PH is the F59PHI basically. the MP (as mentioned) was designed for commuter work; where as the F59 was designed to be an all-purpose passenger engine. So in short; your answer is no.

I would say no becasue:

A: The P42s are working fine.
B: The F59s are working fine.

Plus MARC is getting them for there commuter services (12 I believe) and that would lead to the conclusion that they are push-pull stop-start commuter engines.

Just my guess, IDK...

i think amtrak may get a few of them to replace some f59phi's that have been in accidents or are to far damaged to be repaired. Also amtrak still uses older f40ph's in commuter service, they might replace them.idk, unless something better come out before they order them. i hope they do get some thou. :) :) :) :) :)

Lol where did you hear this? I only look at news sites and press releases, and I don't think Amtrak(In their wildest dream) would purchase a big blob like that anyways, I could be wrong, but it would be really ugly(I can visualize it now.... ). Also, Amtrak doesn't have anymore F40PH's. They've been either withdrawn from service, been converted to cabbages or NPCUs, or they were inhereted by METX(Metra), SCAX(Metrolink), or another commuter service. I bet TBARTA will purchase some if they ever do heavy commuter rail. I'll ask when they hold their meeting at the Tampa convention centre. If they do, they'd be outta their minds, an F59PHI would look better. These MP40s look like beetles lol....

i meant that amtrak uses them for unpowered cabs and cabbages. TheMP40ph looks almost exactly like the f59phi. if amtrak got any, iwould recomend finding a totally new paint scheme for it. some thing similar to the surfliner and california train sets. well i guess ive changed my mind. they really shouldnt buy any and leave it to GO and metra to buy them.:hehe: :hehe: :D :D ;) ;)

Let me clear this up. it is MP36PH-3C, not MP40PH-3C.

Hmmm

Since we are on the subject of Amtrak having this and that engine I wonder if Amtrak will have this engine
jettrain1_gr.jpg

Its called the Bombardier BBRX 2200 Jet Train Its powered by a Jet Turbine and very fast

i'm not too shure about the jet train. theres talk but i havn't seen it testing at the publeo FRA test faciliy in about 3 years. just sitting in the yard with therest of the stuff so either it ran out of funds or there just threw testing it.

Actually they are quite different. If you look at them side by side you can see that the F59PHI is shorter and the cab on MP40PH is more rounded than the F59PHI.
