Moving content from one version to another

Hi guys,

is there a tutorial available on how to move content from one version of trainz to another please , say TS10 to TS12.

Jan.

TS12 should run TS2010 items without any problems or at least that was the design goal.

To import TS2010 content into TS12 TS12, file import and point it at the TS2010 folder, it can take a while.

Thank goodness there are members like you. You're always trying to help. Speaking of which I need. Under my Userdata Folder there is the local folder and then the original folder. I want to transfer non-builtin items from 2010 into 2012. From what I read in your instructions all I have to do is use the import content function for both folders (local & original). Just want to make sure before I do something stupid. Thanks.

I just transfered some items from 2009 to 2012..It is very easy..Select the item you want to transfer..Right click on the item save it to CDP(from CM)(2009)..Reduce the size of the page..Bring up screen from 2012(CM)..Reduce that screen and then you have two screens side by side..Drag CDP file to import of 2012..and it will install..

It's recursive so any sub folders also get imported anything not Trainz content gets ignored. The built in content is in the .ja files so should be ignored. You can of course tick the ignore if already there box when you import.

The reason I state the order being userdata/original followed by userdata/local is that it allows non-modified assets to install first, then modified ones after.

If the asset is already installed (which it shouldn't be on a new install unless you have modified builtin files) it can be skipped if you do not want to add the modified version, or overwritten if you do want the modified version.

Having a bit of the same issue myself exporting from TRS06 to TRS10 (including some payware content). .everything appears to import however a lot of content does not appear in Railyard or Surveyor. . any advise on how to resolve that?

I have seen this too and would also like to know how to fix it. So much to learn still about CM....So many buttons to press at the wrong time...I notice that my CM is hanging a lot lately since I started practising , even practising from tutorials.

jjanmarine3: You might want to see if the Items are committed correctly..To do this open up CM, find the Item you are working with..Right click on the proper asset, find Edit Through Explorer, Scroll down to and see if it needs to be committed..If it is grayed out it doesn't need it..

Thanks Shane, allow me another question while you are around pse, : is there a guide somewhere to explain the general abbreviations used in the forums like CDM and most of the others for us newbies and oldtimers :D ?

Jan.

I can do, are there any particular ones you require the meaning of?

I will have to check up CDM, as it's not one I use much.

I am sure there are other guys too that need it Shane, and one mistake on the understanding of abbreviations can cause big problems ( for me anyway ). Would it be too much to ask for a comprehensive page on all the general ones used, even most the different types of file names are new to me. I realise that it takes time and effort. I fit is too braod I will do my share and check all (or many ) the ones I don't understand. Maybe there are more guys who are 'previously disadvantaged' ( lazy ) like me
:o
