Monitors LED v LCD

Getting Older :)
Hi everyone,

I found one thread on LED Monitors that those who replied are very impressed with their LED monitors.

I just thought I would start this thread as an update to it and see what peoples reactions/thoughts are on LED Monitors now as more are coming out and more people would be using them.

Also, as the Heading says basically says, whats the difference between a LED monitor and a LCD Monitor?

Many thanks for any help, it is much appreciated.

An LED is an LCD! Previous LCD's had fluorescent backlighting whereas LED LCD's have Light Emitting Diodes as backlighting. Consequently that is why they are thinner than previous LCD's.

Yes, an "LED" display is still a form of "LCD" display, using an LED backlight. The advantage of an LED display for image quality purposes is that rather than a single backlight, there is a matrix of multiple LEDs which can be controlled rapidly and independently. This means that the backlighting can be darkened in dark parts of the scene and brightened in light parts of the scene, resulting in improved contrast and dynamic range.

You can see this in person at most electronics retailers - the high-end TVs are all using this technique now.
