Modeling Tutorials?

I am interested in starting a model of local railroads. Are there tutorials on using Digital Elevation Maps for getting the terrain accurate?

Secondly, I am interested in how to paint (reskin) cars. Where do I start?

blender gmax are free 3d modeling programs
photoshop gimp are reskinning program
but there is a very handy tool with which you can create a 3d contents in max 2 to 3 mins and that great thing is google sketch up plug in ruby timx
