Morning Ron,

Not really sure at this point, but by the looks of your screen shot, it appears you have multiple tiles which have been moved around. To move them back into place, first make sure you are on the UTM layer and ensure that it is not locked, then click on the scenery tab, select move and manually drag the tile back to place! It also looks like you may have to adjust the height on it but that could just be the way I am looking at the image. Once moved into position, lock the UTM layer and switch back to the appropriate working layer.

If the tile was created with TransDEM, you can use Minimap to ensure you have selected the correct tile to move by matching the UTM tile names which will be sequential.

If the map has been created by TransDEM 2.1 or 2.2, you can use a TransDEM function to reposition UTM tiles which have gone astray. However, those tile objects must still exist for this function to succeed.

thank you both
the actual tile disappeared
i have no idea where the other tiles that are underneath are from

i think i might best start all over with a fresh lot
i never done much on this new route as yet

thanks

Now that is really cool Phil! Did not know about that feature! Still lots to learn!

Thanks much for that pointer.

now earlier, somebody told me to lock the utm, vector layers,

but when i do that, then i cannot place anything in the session layer

hi geophil
i tried the transdem reposition, but it would not find the route
The usual procedure applies: Export the route temporarily in Trainz Content Manager: "Open for edit", but before you do that ensure that no other route with the same name exists in the export folder. This includes the one created by TransDEM in the first place. Remove it. See page 39 in the TransDEM Trainz manual for details.

Because new objects go to the active layer, the one currently selected. If that is locked, object placing is blocked. Select another layer. (Not absolutely sure if a simple click on the layer suffices, no Trainz installed on this machine.)

please see screenshots
Another tip: From the screenshots it appears that you are using the aerial images for the ground texture. That does not normally yield good results. I recommend to use a topographic map for that. For a US route, go for the 1:24,000 USGS topo map, available via WMS. Select the 5m terrain grid when exporting to Trainz and you will be rewarded with a "navigable" terrain surface.

thank you geophil

there was nothing in the td mapdata folder
i will try it again
i did study the manual, but i think i don't get all of it

i will try that as soon as i get home

the map co-ordinates where i am starting are
-28.003325,152.677985

all i know how to download is the orthomap that jerker told me about

i tried some other ones,
but the only one that would come down was the street map,
then i could not get the normal topographic look for the utm tile.

i did re-read everything he sent me and
i also studied both manuals

thanks again for helping

The TransDEM Trainz import/export folder must be set to the Trainz Content Manager export folder, something like "C:\Program Files\TS2010\UserData\editing".

Orthoimages should always go to UTM tiles, topo maps will usually go to ground textures. The ground texture technique is much more efficient, but limited by map scale. Have a look at the Durango & Silverton tutorial in the TransDEM main manual to familiarise yourself with a WMS geo data source (page 114 in the current edition).

hi
i locked the utm layer, then i clicked on the session layer and it would let me place items.

reset the folder to editing, but still the same thing happening.

done thwe tutorial again,
but when i tried to get mine down again,
the same thing as before

i am fairly convinced that it has to be something in win7 ultimate that is causing this

i never had any of these problems when i was using Xp pro sp2

thanks for all your help
it is greatly appreciated

Where did you install TS2010? What is the complete path to "....\TS2010\UserData\editing" on this particular machine? (Use Windows Explorer to find out.) If you open a route for editing (with Trainz Content Manager), does it appear in "....\TS2010\UserData\editing"? If you do a commit or revert, does it disappear again? Once you are sure that you have identified the TS2010 editing folder, make this the Trainz export/import folder in TransDEM and TransDEM shall find your exported route.

hi mate

F\auran\ts2010\userdata\editing
its the same on the c\ machine

the f one i use as a lite,
with only the stuff i am working with in it
it makes it quicker work in surveyor

when i open the route for editing in the f drive , it shows in f editing

i went through the transdem setting and reset everything to point to f editing,
but the route cannot be found by transdem

i even went through and made sure that both transdem and trainz 2010 have permanent administrator privileges, including child folders

after a restart even only the repair utm tile positions shows up nothing
the drop down list is empty

thanks for all your help mate

i will go ahead with what i have and do the best that i can

i should be have 2 hours free tonight while both my charges are having tests done.
i will be at home and not with them for a change

thanks again
ron
