Jeff,

The red ! means the content in broken. There is something wrong with the textures, the config file, or something else such as attachment points. You can find out what the error is by right mouse-button clicking on the asset, and clicking on the view errors and warnings.

Many of the config-file errors are easily fixed because they are sometimes simple typographical errors. In the old days, the programs were more forgiving of these errors therefore they were never reported. The problem is the program ran poorly as it had to parse through the incorrect code in order to load the asset. This not only cause poor operations, it also made the program very unstable and prone to crashing.

Bad or missing textures can also cause this error. In some cases the texture was never uploaded with the asset. By simple deleting the {texturename}.texture.txt file, the asset can be fixed. Other texture errors aren't so nice, and have to do with something else that is wrong with the texture its self.

Animation errors can't be fixed by the end user, however. These need the original creator to repair and upload an updated asset. The same goes with missing meshes, and other missing requirements.

To repair an asset, right click on it, and choose edit in explorer. This will open up a Win Explorer window. Edit the config-file in Notepad. Texture files can be edited in your favorite photo-editing program.

Once your editing is done, close the Explorer window, and commit the asset. To commit the asset back to the database. highlight the asset and press Ctrl+E at the same time.

Hopefully this will get you going in the right direction. I'm sure other people will help you along the way here too.

Good luck,

John
