missing control bar in Driver

Can anyone help? After a long spell in hospital I eagerly loaded "trainz 2006" and after a spell in surveyor I added a loco and clicked on "quick drive",to my dismay the programme showed no control bar,no drivers in fact all I had was a screen full of squares,no loco's ,nothing.
can anyoner suggest what has happened?

Might be worth trying a database repair - Close Trainz if it is running, then go into the Trainz folder, then delete assets.tdx, then go into the Cache folder and delete assets.bku (if present). Once done, go back into Trainz. (Be aware though that Trainz will take a while to get to the main menu screen after click Start on the Launcher).

Also try loading the session in using the Driver option, rather than using QuickDrive (QuickDrive sometimes has problems)

OK, if that failed, then the problem may be due to a faulty asset or (in serious cases) a faulty session - check in CMP for any assets marked 'Faulty' (use the search box on the left - select 'Faulty' on the dropdown then click Apply). If any assets appear then, right-click each item then click View Errors - the information that then appears will tell you exactly what the problem is. (Likely to be a rule/driver command or a locomotive/rolling stock item)

Another thing to check is whether it happens with one route/session or all routes/sessions (if it is all routes/sessions, a reinstall is best)

Before going to a reinstall, try firstly going to Options on the first screen when 06 loads and in the Display tab find the slider for Train Polys and push it all the way to the right. If this prevents the need to reinstall then you will have a win and I have understood the problem!!!

Cheers

I have experienced exactly the same symptoms – after a lengthy period of not using Trainz2006, I installed it and have no driver icon on the bottom left of the screen… after fiddling for a day, I un-installed and reinstalled it from my disks, and confirmed all was well. I was happy until I then installed the service pack, and durn.. the problem came back.
I then searched the forum and found this thread. I have tried all the suggested remedies here, with no success, so have un-installed and am re-installing again (all 5 disks), and will avoid installing the service pack – I think that introduced the problem.
I am operating Windows 7 now, maybe that is a factor? I did get a file error when running the service pack install, but did not record the details.
Any suggestions anyone?

Very important question - when did you install the service pack - before or after running Trainz for the first time?

If it was before running it for the first time, it may be faulty content.

If it was after running it for the first time, you will need to re-install TRS2006 then (without running it at all) install SP1 (If you run Trainz or CMP at all between installing the game and installing the service pack, you will need to re-install. (SP1 has to be installed on a fresh, never run version of TRS2006)

Shane

EDIT: You say you are running Windows 7 - did you remember to run Trainz as administrator? (this includes the service pack)

Nope..... I did not realise that (probably did a few years back when I first installed the service pack, but not this time)... that will almost certainly be my problem then - Thanks (sigh) out with the 5 disks again, and install for the third time!

No - I did not realise that either, but as a single-user machine I have administrator privileges anyhow, so that should be OK.
