i just thought alot of you might be interested to know that microsoft released its first developers release of windows 8, as of now all we know windows 8 is the codename.i tested trainz on the developers release and trainz runs just fine, and i think the majority will be happy to see this future os in action.look on youtube too look at there progress. Its gonna be much better than windows 7 in my opinion, so the future of trainz and windows compatability is looking really bright, check it out i was impressed!if you have the extra time.windows is slated to be released sometime next year.i just happen to keep up on microsofts progress.

GUYS/GALS IN NO WAY ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS ON YOUR MAIN PC AND ATTEMPT TO USE THIS FOR EVERYDAY USE, WINDOWS 8 IS NOT EVEN IN BETA STAGE YET,PLEASE PLEASE DONT INSTALL THIS UNLESS ITS UNDER VIRTUAL BOX,AS YOU WILL NOT RECIEVE ANY SUPPORT FOR THIS FROM NV3 PLEASE DONT ASK.

I tried it already. It's "pretty" and even runs well in a virtual machine, which I did so I didn't have to mess up my main PC.

I should get a clunker setup and see if I can run Trainz under it though. It's supposedly 100% compatible with Windows 7... So they say.

i installed trainz and it runs under it, the only thing that wouldnt work that i installed was my defrag software, but i didnt keep it on my system as, its not even beta yet, when it reaches rc i will more than likely move over to it for good, but that could be 6 months away

Don't like it I'm afraid.

Mobile phone type desktop, Windows Live login, no thank you.
efi boot system required for new PC's that block using other OS's such as Linux. More Microsoft trying to control what we do with our PC's.

I'm glad I hung up my MS beta testing hat after Win7.
Still feeling miffed after the mess they made of Longhorn which would probably have been as good an OS as Win7 until MS started fixing what wasn't broken and created Vista.

Looks like a great OS so far. I wonder if it will be ready when the next major release of trainz is out. I still run off of Vista. Hoping to get Windows 7 in a couple of months.

what i am understanding they are looking at a summer release for windows 8, it is a nice os, its just difrent to get use too,i have no clue when the next trainz release will be since trainz 12 is not but 6 months or so old, after using the normal start menu since windows 95 its gonna be a weird transition, and runs on lower systems than windows 7

Thats just too much, there is no need for another new OS, the only reason is to get more money from you and control what you can and can't do a little more than before.
When did they decide an OS should be like the latest series of games? Instead of releasing a service pack, lets add some paint and curly bits to it and sell it as a new version to make more billions. :(
Stuff it where the sun don't shine B*lly boy.........

I'm in agreement with Deano5, I find no financial reason to give Microsoft any more cash, I still run XP & it still runs everything a computer
needs to, without any glitches, burps or hissy fits.

I am still using Windows Vista, and I am not interested in upgrading, though I likely will not care if Windows 7 comes with any new OEM computer I may buy since it will be the OEM putting Windows 7 on it, not me. I am not interested in this new Start Screen or all-new-and-so-beautiful look-and-feel or whatever other insignificant extras Microsoft considers worth a couple hundred bucks or whatever high price as Windows 8. The complaints that some people around here have been making about Trainz and N3V, that N3V does not make enough major changes between Trainz versions or whatever, might apply to Windows and Microsoft in this case. Sometimes, there is no need to go after the "lastest and greatest", for the existing older stuff can do it just fine. Windows Vista does its job just fine for me and I have no problems with it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Regards,

Retro.

Well I don't know whether it will be worthwhile or not, but if I took the attitude that some have I would be still typing on the keyboard, using a wired mouse, and not being able to do any of the things that I do now. Now I say that because at the present I am using Windows 7, wireless trackball, wireless graphics tablet, and speech recognition:hehe:

I'll download it and take a look at it. It will be pretty easy to throw on and take off if need be, I've already got a fairly recent image and it don't take 20 min. to make an absolute current one. Now my graphics tablet not only uses a pen for input but also uses gestures and I would've never thought anything having to do with multitouch technology would be something I would be interested in, but after using it I really can't even imagine being without it.

But I guess one could stay in the past or one can embrace new technology and software. Even though I am of the older generation born prior to PCs, I still enjoy exploring new technology. With that said I'm sure I could dig out my old VFX-1 VIRTUAL REALITY HELMET and sell it to somebody who enjoys nostalgia:hehe:

Edit: I even think I have the original version of Redneck Rampage that goes with that VFX-1, now of course you have to have a 486 (probably) and you would have to find an old 8-bit VGA card to run thing, but I guess some on this forum might actually not have the hardware to pull it off:hehe:

Wireless? Hmm, you obviously don't have young children in your house. It can take me 20 minutes just to find the TV remote, I hate to think of having to run around the house trying to find a cordless mouse. :hehe:
As for bracing new technology, well I'm not going to be drawn into that one with you. Let's look at your posts regarding Trainz12....:p

To my understanding there is a fairly large difference between bracing and embracing.

As far as your statement regarding my "posts on trainz12…" I've learned that some people can't stand the truth, they have issues that are normally self-inflicted they want to blame them on a particular piece of software and just expect everyone else to agree with them, then they get a little upset when not everyone does.

i really enjoy linux, but i kinda put it in the wash because trainz is never gonna support it, i did get trainz running under Ubuntu but not stable, without trainz developer support i just stay away from linux.
