Because Vista is Microsofts latest OS, and they want to push new titles out for it.
Vista has fewer bugs than XP, and is a hell of alot more reliable, so its sensible to push it for Vista rather than XP.

Bugs I have Xp pro for yrs never had problims ? Games for Windows SUCKZ! they just want us to consume get a new pc mobile car ect Traps you into getting vista I was in a games store about 2 months ago looking for a change and saw Halo2 WOW! but games for windows I should of got it I just want to play the game for all those Xp users otherwise :'( in their beer

I'll believe the promises about MSTS2 nearer the time when it appears. Remember what was promised for the original MSTS2 and what happened to that. Also remember all those who grumble at Auran. At least THEY put their money where their mouth is and support Trainz. Where is or was the official MSTS download station?

Another game that will not sell; no Vista will not get MS anywhere - experts are already calling on them to abandon the whole OS altogether and move on to the next version. Shadowrun is Vista only - the game is dead weight - the studio that made it got liquidated within a month of release, developers being scattered to other Microsoft development teams - same fate will await MSTS2. I checked Steam (Valve's download able service) hardware/software statistics the other day when I submitted mine - Vista was something like 4% of users.

Addition:

Developers do not want to stay exclusive to Vista - look at Gears of War for PC - XP and Vista on announcement, Starcraft 2 - Developed for XP, says right in the FAQ, Crysis - again DirectX9 and 10 - nothing that is coming out until the end of year is Vista exclusive because people are unwilling to loose money by making games for system that does not sell. Vista is a hardware hog - all that eye candy costs - people have seen over 50% drop in performance from Xp to Vista. It is dificult to work with - companies are starting to (yes still slowly but they are doing it) put Linux on their workstations rather then get Vista. Think about that.

Is there anything to suggest that MSTS2 won't be a train driving simulator like KRS?

Exactly what I was thinking. If it is like KRS (& nothing like trainz) I wont be bothering with it.

I suppose all I really want is a supercharged version of trainz as it is.Bigger better detail & graphics & some nicer portals.

FWIW here are the stats for visitors to my site (not RBR) last month (Aug-07):
Windows XP 76.8%
Windows Vista 6.3%
Mac OS X 5.1%
Each of the other operating systems under 5%
Total hits about 62,000. Most of the pages on my site have nothing remotely to do with computers.

I guess it'll take a lot for Microsoft to admit defeat and release MSTS-X for XP, but money speaks very, very loudly...

BTW MSTS-X and KRS are two totally different programs developed by completely separate companies. Just because one is no good, that's no reason to necesarily condemn the other. It's every reason to be very wary though :)

Hello

I have to say if MS TRAIN SIM X (II) does not work with XP, the number of users buying it will decline.:hehe:

Microsoft wont bother making it for XP. Shops are going to be removing XP from shelfs June 08. This game will hit shelfs a while after that. Why MS are bothering with XP SP3 i don't know.

What i can see, is some people are unhappy with change, and are sticking with XP, but, if you want all the Dx10 glory, your gonna need to get Vista. Vista is'nt expensive, here in the UK, Vista Home Basic is around £55, possibly more, while Ultimate Edition is around £120 (All OEM copies obviously) XP meanwhile is still selling for over £60.

You are mistaken Sam, the problem is not the price - you can buy an OEM copy of Vista Ultimate here for $250 (Canadian dollars) which is rather cheap.

The problem is that in fact, the system is terrible. There is a multitude of bugs in it, security holes. It is not compatible with a lot of older hardware, and I'm sorry to say Microsoft must support. A company should carter to the needs of it's customers rather then support hardware makers that make new expensive product. The new security system is a pain in the rear to work with, and the IT departments are unwilling to deal with it, instead of opting to go with XP (this is one of the main reason behind expansion of OEM XP sales till next year). You say that you can't see why Microsoft bothered with SP3 for XP. Because they need to support a system for which there is a demand. It is the same reason for which there were Six service packs for NT 4.0. I could go buy Vista right now, I would and I was but I will not because I've seen frames per second on my system go from 80 on XP to 30-40. As for wanting DirectX 10, current games that will be coming out in recent months make very little use of this technology, again because no one is willing to develop for unpopular platform. The only one that could be good is Crysis - running Crysis in DX9 seems to be fairly slower then on DX10 and it lacks much of the physics show in the demos because the DX10 engine allows to game perform much more complicated physics calculations allowing for example for you to mow down parts of jungle Predator style.

It can't be that difficult to produce software that will work with DX 10 or earlier versions. I already own two games that do.
Ed

As I understand it, MSTS-X will use the same game engine as FS-X (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) which runs on XP as well as Vista.

John

Hey all, keep in mind that I *might* get to test MSTSX/2.

I unfortuantely can't release any actual details until after the release (if even then) and plus I haven't been called for it YET.

But I would be more than happy to attest to whether it's better/worse than TRS if I do get that chance to test.

That's all.

But NOT here in rip-off Britain. Here an exchange rate of at least £1=1$ US is used for such software. Even Bill Gates was lost for words when asked to justify this in a TV interview. (It is known technically as what the market will bear, i.e. what can we get away with)
