BOSTON - Microsoft is helping the estimated hundreds of millions of customers still running Windows XP, which it stopped supporting earlier this month, by providing an emergency update to fix a critical bug in its Internet Explorer browser.

In theory it is not a XP patch but a patch for IE that runs on XP. But anybody using IE on XP and not chrome using and all the security apps for it like disconnect is asking for trouble anyway.

I don't know enough about the issue, although I like to think that this is targeted at IE from version 6 and upward as opposed to encompassing XP.

This issue caught so much attention due to the fact it was exploitable the latest version of IE I assume, had it been isolated to IE 6 or 7 I don't feel much would have been done about it due to the fact they are unsupported.
