Microsoft Official Word

I hope they do something to improve FPS, because with MSFS, it was bad, and with detailed surroundings, my computer will die. But I just hope they follow through with it, that's my biggest concern.

I can see it now... Development pictures are amazing... Microsoft hypes it up to the point where no one doesn't want it... Finally it is released... You pay big bucks to get it on the first day... You install it... and...

Microsoft Train Simulator has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

:D

I could not get the above TSX link to work but I got the below elsewhere.

"Redmond, WA, January 19, 2007– Following the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the Aces Studio is using the same technology to develop a new version of Microsoft Train Simulator. Unrelated to our previous Train Simulator development efforts, this version will be an all-new product built on the Flight Simulator X platform, the culmination of 25 years of product development and technology.
It’s too early to discuss the details of this product, but we look forward to sharing more information later this year. "

Above this was a a screen shot of a block signal showing that a train (TSX). was coming. Clearly there is more work to do as the block signal light was WHITE. ;>

I know this is off-topic, but still very very interesting news for all us train sim fans.

Lets keep all the banter in this thread please.

Cheers.

" if its based on the flight simulator x engine, then it definitely needs a lot of performance optimizations"

I think there might be differences between a train sim where your camera view point is near the ground and blocked by nearby objects a lot of the time and a flight sim where it's trying to draw so much for such a long distance. Even relatively low at 5000ft (maybe especially) it's got a lot of things to do.

I'm just thinking to compare them directly might not be fair. True that FSX has some Frame rate issues (although for me it lacks the stutters that FS2004 had early on) especially in dense city/air traffic areas, it does work very well for general aviation away from the city flying on my system ;-)

I do hope this one gets off the ground, but hopefully MS has learnt from the current MSTS about a better route building capability.

It's still too early.

I would 'wait and see'.

I hope that Auran will be able to respond with (kind of) a very upgraded Trainz, near the original concept of RSP.

I already asked MS about a Linux version, but I expect no answer :)

Cheers,
N.F.

If they include a free two year course in Computer Graphics Programming, Topology and Computer Terminology (advanced) I"ll certainly buy it.Meanwhile I"d better clean the dust and cobwebs off my original MSTS...
