I don't get it, why are they removing the bridge?

According to a report it was deemed unsafe due to internal corrosion, they discovered it when testing it before a railfan day in 2016!
They were concerned that it would collapse under the weight of the fans, so they closed it and planned for its removal.

Demolition will continue today, they are using thermal lances to cut through part of it at the moment, without the crane supporting it!

If you look at where the bridge was removed, you can see a support remaining between the tracks, they had trouble removing it yesterday, so I guess they are working on plan B

The first parts of the bridge had to be done at night because of the station below it.

It looks like plan B is in full 'swing' to remove that stubborn bridge support.
It's a digger machine with a big drill /hammer on it!
