Merge Route

I am having a problem in trying to merge two routes.
I select merge route from the drop down menu
then I select the route I want to merge with the one that I am working on.
When the mini map appears it is grey with no baseboards on it.
Am I missing something obvious

The mini map centres on the route you are working on.Sometimes when merging,the other route is way off the map.Somebody may know a quick way of doing it,but the only method I know,is to put the mini map on minimum settings,and use the arrows to try and get the other route to show.Very hit or miss.

i found in TC that if i use 1 blank board and then i merge the other 2 routes to it, it finds them better than just trying to merge the 2 routes

of course you have to set the board up to the region and all the details first
