I was up that way last year severe storm chasing, but chased trains (unofficially) instead.
Sadly, if you notice the greyish-green color on patches of spruce trees, this is caused by that horrible virus that is wiping the trees out. The virus is spread by a bark borer beetle who weakens the tree's immune system.
