Map Corrupted

My PC rebooted while I was editing my route and when I opened it again the map was corrupted.

After figuring out there was no way to rectify it I replaced it with my most recent backup copy, which is 2 weeks old (didn't think it was that long since I backed up and must be the longest since my last corrupt map incident)

Thing is a strange thing seems to have happened. While all of the map changes I've made in the past two weeks are obviosly lost, some textures that I'd downloaded since this backup are showing in the map, as are some station names I'd edited since.

I know this because I added some coastline since my last backup (which I'm going to have to do again grrr!) and downloaded some sand texture for the beaches. I then added this new texture to an older stretch of coastline (in which I'd initially used plain light brown colour for sand) however this new sand texture is now present in the terrain.

Any ideas how this could be? I'm kind of clutching at straws that this could lead to a way of restoring the route changes I've lost (alothugh I wasn't completely satisfied with some of the route work so I suppose this is an opportunity to do it better.

I would be more concerned about why our PC re-booted itself since it is likely to happen again.
It happened to me when the 5V on the main board became erractically low, due to a poor connection at the connector where the power supply conntects MB.

Sorry you lost hours of work. But if you're doing important work on a computer, you've got to back it up, even if that's just saving a second copy in case the original gets trashed.

From the Wiki: Making copies of files is the simplest and most common way to perform a backup. A means to perform this basic function is included in all backup software and all operating systems.

I use external USB hard drives for my backups. But Father Christmas may not be able to bring me a new 2-terabyte drive due to the flooding in Thailand and what that's doing to the hard drive supplies here in the USA.

The various pieces of your route are contained in several files. What probably happened is the GND file got corrupted. The other files (ones you edited later and added text names and such) didn't get messed up so they retained their contents.

When I am working on a route, I stop about every hour or so and do a 'save as' to a sequentially numbered name. If Surveyor craps out, you only lose about an hour's worth of work.
