How Do they Quarter Mallets??Are they the same on the right as well as on left side of the Engine??Or is each Set of rods Quartered?? Or each side??Thanking you in advance..

The front and rear set of drivers are quartered normally - normally 90 degrees for two cylinders or 120 degrees for tripples (were there any six cylinder Mallets?) but there is no synchronisation between the front set of drivers and the rear set. The front engine or the rear engine can slip while maintining adhesion on the other end...

The front set was more likely to slip then the rear in spite of a fancy mechanism to place weight from the front of the boiler on them.

Never heard of a 6 cylinder mallet. Would think the center cylinders would be a design nightmare on both front and rear engines. Not too bad on non-mallets since the ones that were built were quite successful (UP9000 for example).
