Major problems with download station

Since I got Trainz 2006 last summer I've been having difficulties with not only the software but the download station as well.

Everytime I wish to download something online it says that a serial # is needed next to the item I wish to download but I don't know where to register my serial number. Next when I'm in the game there's an option which links me to the DS but when I press it it reads "Site down for Maintenance." It's been reading the same error message for almost an entire year. Next I want to check out the content creator but I can't find it anywhere in my program.

I'm dying to download some American steamers, mostly 4-4-0s but everywhere I go just leads me in a circle and it's very frustrating. Anyone know how to resolve these issues? Any information is greatly appreciated.

= Serial Number =
Login to Auran Profile -- "Planet Auran" button on page http://www.auran.com
Trainz Section --> Serial Numbers

= Download Access =
Login to Auran Profile -- "Planet Auran" button on page http://www.auran.com
Trainz Section --> Download Tickets
Scroll down to "Download Station Access" - this will show what access you have to the DLS. (Depends on Serial Numbers)

Cheers

In addition, before starting CMP, select options from the Trainz 2006 launcher and on the Planet Auran tab, enter your username and password that you created when you created your account - in theory it is the same one you are using to access the forum. Provided you have registered your 2006 serial number as listed above then you should be able to connect up to dls.

Sometimes you will have to "re-save" this information several times while using the DLS until you finally give up and go do something else....

well, I did like everyone said and it works...yet I still have problems.

Being a huge Strasburg fan, I'm trying to download the Strasburg Railroad route. There are several options to assist downloading. I tried the first one, download helper and a box popped up which reads "You have chosen to open such-and-such file. What should firefox do with this file?" I had no idea what to do so I chose open with firefox which results in blank windows popping up to infinity. Now anytime I press that option it no longer asks me what to do, it just does that.

Next I chose downloading via direct FTP link and the only way to use that is to download the content manager. So I did. When I download it to the manager I open up the program and see a series of highly confusing icons and file names. It's quite frustrating to me because I've read the instructions on how to use the program and I can't understand it.

Can anyone help at all? I'm really frustrated thinking about all the extra content I'd like to add yet finding it incredibly difficult to do so. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

You presumably clicked on the "Download Page" link in order to get to the screen with the Download Helper and FTP options.

This is where you went wrong, just click the Download link on the left under the thumbnail.

YES! I am not the only Strasburg fanatic on this forum now! :D :p I also assume the Strasburg route you are trying to download is actually the one I created (kuid:313505:1393). Also, I agree with everything that has been said above, you should be fine if you click on Download under the thumbnail image. It should put the file under the Download Helper panel in Content Manager. You would then click Download in that panel and you should be good to go.

Welcome to the forums my fellow Strasburg fanatic. :D By the way, I will be sending you a private message a little later.

Nah I tried that. When I press download (helper) it just opens empty windows that just go into infinity. I can't change it. I went to Firefox and changed the content option to ask what I want to do with a file before I download and the problem still continues.

It has to do with that first day I found the download station. I pressed the download button and unknowing what to do when firefox asked me what to do with the file I set it to open with firefox. Then the stupid window problem began and it seems like it can't be reversed.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hi
In Firefox go to the menu option click on "Tools" then "Options" when the little window opens click on the "Applications" icon and this should show you a little window with a list of things to do when you download click on the CDP icon in the "Action" window and it should show a Lister arrow to click on when the list comes up choose the "Always Ask" option click ok and restart Firefox.

Next time you download it should ask you what you want to do with the file, always click save to disk.

Interesting suggestion, but only useful if you want to save everything to disk. My Firefox set up has no entry for .cdp's, and I would suggest that you delete anything you find in there. It should then use the Windows association, which should point to Content Manager (check using Tools > Folder Options in any Explorer window).

Alternatively you could just find the items you want in the main window in Content Manager, then click and drag them onto the small download helper window (or right-click and select Download).

Hi
You don`t have to save everything to disk, this suggestion was to fix his problem with Firefox looping to infinity (post #5) and you can delete the entry as you suggest but I find it useful sometimes to save CDPs to disk.

If CMP is set up properly when he clicks on download helper in the website download station it should open the content manager to download content.

Well Pladroid, you certainly solved my problem with the windows thank you very much. I'm one step closer to getting the Strasburg route and some 4-4-0 locos.

Now when I press the download helper a window pops up which reads "Launch Application: This link needs to be opened with an application. Send to:" and then it asks me to choose an application, it doesn't have a save to disk option.

So what application should I choose in order not to complicate things any further?

Hmmm

Not sure why its doing that, it normally does ask if you want to save.

Anyway if its asking for an application and it lets you browse for it, browse to your trainz folder, wherever you installed it, then in the bin folder and click on the cmp.exe file and use this application which should hopefully download and install it, if it does just make sure its commited and doesn`t need any more dependancies and your good to go.

Having said all that if by any chance it doesn`t work then the only thing I can suggest is to delete the entry in firefox and download via cmp as suggested in earlier posts.

Okay I got as far as the bin folder but this cmp.exe section you describe isn't there.

These are the following icons as they appear:

CMPData
TETData
TPSData
CCP
CCPConsole
Content Manager
gsc
gse
Launcher
TPS2006
Trainz
TrainzDiag
TrainzUtil

I'm getting closer, right? Or am I missing something in that bin folder?

So close and so far away :)

The one you want is Content Manager which handles all content downloaded as well as other things.

I should really think about trying to download from content manager directly because as noted elsewhere 2006 Content Manager tends to freeze now and then if you give it to much to handle.

Also note that Content Manager needs to be set up properly with your password and login details.

Like I posted before if it doesn't work out in Firefox downloader you will have to use Content Manager.
