Looks Good, makes all the right noises but it won't go.

Got another loco with trouble.
Just tried to find it in Download Station to review its kuid and other required parts but can't fine the thing.

Anyone got the kuid to find it in Download Manager?
(it's been almost a year since I've messed with Downloads and Content - like statring all over as an ignorant newbie)

It is a Norfolk and Western 1910s 4-4-2 Atlantic which was ironically also named Class J like the 1950s 4-8-4.

Put loco in a RR the other day and on DCC it wouldn't go.

Will go back and try again to see if I was the problem or if it works on cab driver control.

Will let you know.

I think it is either the engine specs or one of the engine's bogies,I switched the original spec so that the same engine that is giving you problems can operate reliably, try changing that and let us know the results of the test!;)

Try clicking on it with the "?" after you have placed it in Surveyor. It might need coal or water.

R/Tom
:)

Will try that.
Just set it up.
Are able to get into the cab on manual drive.
Seems to be lacking whatever lets you control throttle/reguator.
got brakes, got sand.
can't find whistle and bell.

I don't know how to and it no longer seems to be in Download Station, or else I'm searching wrong.

Okay, making progress figuring this out.

Finally figured out how to get it open in Content Manager.
Says it has an error.
Found how to view errors.
"A cumpulsory tag 'color' is missing and had been set do default"
"The tag 'cabin sway' is not permitted within this container. (Container type 'traincar')

Says 0 broken or missing dependencies.

And it has the kuids
kuid:96914:6060 for loco
kuid:96914:6061 for tender

As of yet haven't a clue how to change errors given.

The problem with N&W Class J 606,<kuid:96914:6060> in DCC mode is the enginespec, nwj eng,<kuid:96914:51606>. The motor container values are all screwed up or zeroed out. Using CM I right click the enginespec kuid and selected Edit - Edit in Explorer and replaced the existing motor container with this:

motor
{
resistance 1.3
adhesion 4.5
maxvoltage 600
maxspeed 40
brakeratio 67000
max-accel 1500
max-decel 2500
throttle-notches 32
axle-count 32
surface-area 150
moving-friction-coefficient 0.01
air-drag-coefficient 0.0001
}

Save and commit ok.

The loco now drives in DCC mode and Cab.

Bob

Okay, here goes - haven't got much confidence in myself - never done this before!

Okay, got that done.
Copied and pasted what you'd written to replace what was there.

Got this when went to drive it

Thead ExceptionERDivideByZero, line 544 file

Stack dump:

function $void@SteamCabinwithFireman::Update(), line -1
"Thead"????

Now I'm deeply lost.

Did I screw something up with doing the following - when went to edit box came up saying item was 2004 and needed to be updated in some details to 2006 - do ya want to do that? Might need to go back and fix some things if ya do, though. Yes? No? Having done the PRR E6 earlier I decided yes.

Then had second thoughts, canceled the edit and went back and clicked "revert".

Then started editing again.

This is quickly getting over my head.

Did do what program suggests somewhere and archive it yesterday in My Documents before doing any editing.
Question is how to get it out of archive if need to start over - or did change take effect in archive too?

It sounds like you did the edit using Edit in Content Creator Plus (CCP) instead of Edit in Explorer. Using CCP on older content will try to update it TS2006, which can sometimes cause more problems.
This loco has a script (Program) that shovels coal when you run in Driver. It has several sub-programs (threads) within the main script. Apparently the is a problem now that you've edited it.
I make the edit to the enginespec using Edit in Explorer then saved and committed it. It runs fine for me without any errors.

Bob, right now is the first time I have ever attempted this kind of thing.
Any ideas on what can be done to recover the situation?

It's all at the I haven't got a clue what to ask ahead of time because I don't know what all the kinds of things I don't know about are.
I didn't edit in Explorer the first time because it was admittedly a bit intimidating - I was afraid of irrevocably screwing something up by accident for not knowing what I was doing.
Content Creator seemed more guided and therefore safer for the newcomer.

I'm beginning to think editing - fixing - this stuff is no place for people who aren't already experienced.

"Experience needed" but there's no place to get the experience needed other than the place which needs you to already have the experience

A spot of arrogance in the Read Me

Now I will bring up that somewhere along the way I did get into the Read Me file and found the creator to exhibit what seems to be a bit of arrogance that I feel rather insulted by.
Actually, downright angry.
Irate.

My health is a mess and a lot of the time I Can Not focus enough to use cab mode.
It is not my choice to be a wimp.
Can't drive or do the checkbook math those days either.
And it seriously cuts into the paycheck; also not my choice as that takes a real bite out of money for fun stuff.

I am deeply P.O.'d at the creator right now.
Ironic to have such a pretty engine spring from such an ugly attitude.

Norfolk and Western Class J

For TRS2004 and TRS2006. Almost certainly not TC3 and up.

Description:
Around the turn of the century, the Norfolk and Western was seeking faster passenger motive power. The engines in service were several classes of Americans, along with the V and A class Ten Wheelers. In 1903, the railroad purchased a group of six Atlantics, which were assigned numbers 600 to 605 and class J. These Atlantics introduced the N&W to the wide firebox over a trailing truck, which would be employed on many future locomotives. In addition, the class J employed the largest driving wheels that would ever be used on the N&W.

I've run it at 96 mph on level track. How 'bout you? Cab mode, mind. DCC is for wimps. That's why it ain't workin'.
[bold and underlining by me FSW]

Thanks:
Thanks to the late elvenor (Max Nelson) for providing source files for his old west people (the basis of the fireman and engineer), RPearson (Bob Pearson) for the cab script, and trw1089 (Tony Weber) for the original pacific sounds

Okay, that finally makes the cause of my problems clear - this kuid was intended for a class of user superior to the rest.
The inferior classes need not apply.
And I'm obviously an inferior class of person.
So this one was never intended for people like me to begin with.

Yeah yeah, I know MY message counts as trolling too.
So?

Not having used TS06 for a few years, I can't entirely remember how I used to go about editing assets but as I recall, it was similar to TS09. If so, in CMP you should right click on the asset you have made the changes to the engine spec on, then click on revert.

This should bring your asset back to the original settings I think so at least it is no longer faulty. What I normally do if I'm going to start changing bits around, is to clone the original item (again with right click on your asset in CMP). This will give you a new asset that you can mess up as often as you like without too much cause for concern as you will always have the original.

As for the content creator's comments, I shouldn't lose too much sleep over them. I doubt very much they are aimed at anyone in a nasty way and after all, it is entirely up to the creator as to what they want to make operational on their own content.

Hah. I remember seeing Ben's message about that. :D

He released that 4-4-2 on April Fools day - The class of 4-4-2s was indeed named 'Js', and everybody was freaking out that he was making the famed 4-8-4s. :hehe:

He ended up making the 4-8-4 anyway. But personally, I like the Atlantic better...

on30gn15,
I'll help you try this again, it's not that hard.
First, delete N&W Class J 606,<kuid:96914:6060> loco and also enginespec kuid:96914:51606.
Now re-download N&W Class J 606,<kuid:96914:6060> from http://www.steammachine.com/bdaneal/sgdl.htm so you have new copies.
Find the enginespec kuid:96914:51606 in CMP, right click it and select Edit - Edit in Explorer. This will open Windows Explorer in the ..\Auran\TRS2006\editing folder. Double click the config.txt file to open it in Notepad and replace the motor section with the one I provided. Close and save. Now right click the enginespec kuid:96914:51606 and commit it.
Go drive it in DCC mode.

Bob

Hi PFX and Sampug394;

It's frustrating to come into this knowing nothing, nada, zero, zilch.
The learning curve is a bit steep.
And trying to do this stuff when one doesn't feel good doesn't help - I screwed up in not waiting for a better day.
Oh. Well.
Live and Learn.

Okay, will try the revert thing.

And the cloning.

If it goes fast in DCC may just try being adventurous and put its speed info in the PRR E6 which ought to be doing over 80 according to reliable references but tops out a 69.

Have known about some of N&W earlier stuff since living near Norfolk in the 1980s.
Atlantics are a favorite type.
The excitement of finding one and then the disappointment of it not working when being clueless how to fix it, that was a mental whiplash type thing.

It would be neat to know how to make the bodies for these things (and what is used to do it) but that's probably another 3 year learning curve, eh.

Okay, time for breakfast.
Thanks guys.

Hey there, rweber95

Using search function in CMP for enginespec isn't finding anything.
There is the possibility I'm doing something wrong.

Remember it being said a few posts back not to use Content Creator Plus, right?

Can edit straight out of Open For Edit in CMP.
Would that work.

Also not sure this computer gave me a choice last time what to open it with in Explorer.

About to try again - here goes!

EDIT:

Okay, think it was succesful this time.
Now the question, how do you know which one is the clone when you go to put them on the rails?
Now it's time for breakfast!

I tried it and then the notice came up: this tag, that tag, the other tag, and all the tags, "are not allowed in this container".

I'll have to try it again, when I get time.

Still getting this when went to drive it right quick.
Tried both original and clone.
It won't allow the choice of Cab or DCC to be made.

Stack dump:

Frustrated - it's N&W and a really good looking model.
I want it to go!
