Looking for road with untrafficed center

I need a road with traffic on both sides with the center lane or lanes empty, or a way to specify distance from center for traffic. What I want to do is run a single track down the center of the road and have car traffic on both sides, but not where the trolley will run. Failing that, a single lane one way road that I can lay on both sides of a single track with traffic going opposite directions. I know about car spawners and invisible traffic roads, but I'd rather not use them if I can avoid it. Anyone know of a road that has traffic more spread out so it doesn't crowd the centerline as closely? All the four lanes I've looked at the outside lanes are usually empty with the traffic running on the inside lanes, what I'm really looking for is a 4 lane that does the opposite, traffic all runs in the outer two lanes.

Sadly the distance that Trainz traffic is from the road centre line is hard coded. It may be possible to achieve something using the 'isfreeway' tag (see TC CCG), but these multi-lane one-way roads don't seem to interact well with normal roads, and very few whave been produced. There is a UK motorway spline by bloodnok if you want an example.

This totally seems like something that should be available. I can't think of anything I know of. You'd think that there were roads with rails built right into them! It'd be even cooler if cars knew to swerve/move-over if a trolly or train goes through.

Yeah, that's why I'm looking for a separate lane for the trains, I can't hang with all them cars passing thru the train. Not the way it was done in Chicago, but I guess I can live with using four lane boulevards and running the tracks on the two outside lanes.

One irritating thing is many many many many of these road splines are not labeled "no traffic", but after placing one and waiting two or three minutes no cars show up. :'(

Other item, when placing several splines in a given area, if I want them all at the same level I select the advanced "Apply vertex height" tool and click on all the spline ends in the area. Doing that with roads in TS2010 disables the traffic? :confused:

I use TS2010 as well and when I first read this, I thought "if this is true, why did I not come across this before?". But with some experimenting, I believe you are right (at least on the one road spline I chose) in some, but not all cases, in other words, hit or miss.

But the solution I found when it happens is to add another another spline point and leave it "non-height adjusted" and the traffic comes back.

I do a lot of messing around with road splines, traffic and trams, so I know what you're going through.

Don't forget that if you add a trafficed spline to the end of a no-traffic spline, traffic will travel through. And Trainz traffic always turns left (and yes even if it drives on the right).

Setting spline heights will temprarily remove spawned carz, but they do come back. I suspect that also there is some kind of algorithm that controls the total number of carz, but I can't prove it. Sometimes traffic generated seems inexplicably low...

I was poking around in some of the road files to see if there was an "offset from center" that could be adjusted, no joy. There is a speed and "carrate" which took me a while to figure out that's "car RATE" as in the spawning rate of cars for that road spline.

May I suggest you take a look at some of the roads by atilabarut. They should at least get you the 1-way traffic you want, maybe that will help you get started. Here's a sample (not a complete list):

You might also be able to modify other roads, such as YARN etc, by adding the tags 'isfreeway 1' and (e.g.) 'numlanes 2' to the config.txt file. I have only experimented with this a little so no guarantees.

-Mike

Thanks, the one-way USfreeway works;

Need to figure out if there's a way to swap these newfangled contraptions for some Hudsons and Studebakers and we'll be all set. :cool:

This would be interesting (but it reminds me about an idea I was thinking about - a dual center left turn lane with no traffic)

Dunno if that would work, while hunting thru all these roads I came across a six lane expressway with a center median and guardrails - outer and middle lanes on both sides empty, cars running on the inside of the inside lane leaving all that empty real estate and rubbing paint off on the guardrails. :hehe:
