Looking for help with advanced terrain design.

Hi everyone;

I've posted from time to time about an intended DLS Freeware project, Project: Halsiburg
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=39080

While I am happy with the urban parts of the layout, am reasonably happy with my choices of tracks and catenary and some aspects of scenery, I have seen many screenshots on these forums of rural scenery that is much better than what I've been able to create so far.

Thusly, I am looking for some advanced Surveying design tutorials and/or help.

Another idea is this: if someone here is a good landscape Surveyor designer and would like to jump into the project, that would rock too. :cool:

One of the thingies I noticed is your use of ground textures. Can give you a tip there: hold down the [ or ] key down while painting, it makes the brush rotate which breaks up the checkerboard pattern. :)

Another thing I noticed was how you used my glass noise barrier as bridge. That's being creative! :D

It would help to take a look at some pictures of the area you are modelling (or the place you're loosely basing your route on). For example, southern California has hills that look nothing like hills at all, but a series of ridges with sharp tops. Google Maps is a good place to start. They've made it even better with StreetView.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.
