Looking For F40PH

GN1996

Not a real user title.
It would be much appreciated if someone could let me know where I can find free Phase III Amtrak F40PHs for TS12. This find would help me to complete a route in progress.

I tried going to that website, but discovered I had already tried to download magicland's f40ph and I was told the model was obsolete. :(

Well for free, you can download Blender, a 3-d modeling program. Then you can spend weeks/months/years learning how to use it, and construct that PIII F40PH from scratch. Then download GIMP, an image manipulation program (again...free) and spend another bunch of weeks/months/years learning how to make the appearance of your model look so real you think you smell diesel fuel.

And there you go. You can spend literally thousands of hours in the learning curve of content creation, tear some of your hair out, swear a lot, and possibly break a computer component or two making it yourself...

...or you can spend ten bucks. Ten bucks. Mow a lawn. Shovel a sidewalk. Save money for a week or two. I assure you, anything you get from JointedRail is worth it!

But if you absolutely HAVE to have it free, NOW....http://www.protrainz.com/cm/displayimage.php?album=8&pos=34

I agree with you on the above, but not the downside. Creating models is a good thing, not a bad thing. I do it myself and I learned the 3D program in one week. And it's going well. You can always try to develope on your own as it isn't that hard after all.

The bad thing is that most quality stock from the "West" are payware. While several models with much superior quality and performance is developed in Russia for free to everyone.

learning to develop your own items is okay. you always get what you want and no more or less.

i disagree about your last statement. i have not seen one piece of extraordinary US stock from Russia for free. :hehe:

joking aside, i dont see how you can make that assumption at all. for one thing, its all Russian content as far as i am aware, and you really have no basis for judging quality and performance against anything else.

Yes, they make Russian content for Trainz. US content made by the Russians is not seen very often. Russia have a different culture and system than in the US, made by leftovers of the USSR and normal hospitablity.

Try to compare the freeware Moscow Metro routes with payware US stock, see the difference in quality and performance? I know what I'm talking about, as I'm not stupid.

Again, I'm not against any developer at all.

why compare routes with payware stock?

comparing US routes with Russian routes i can see doing, but otherwise i dont understand what you are saying here.

As for the rolling stock, I can't see how the US payware can beat this 81-717 freeware. If they can, let me know which model does.

Not to start a flame war, reason I'm doing this is because I feel it's strange most of the quality content in the west is Payware while it's the opposite here.

i agree that does look nice. it is a subway train but, yea its nice.

you are saying that most quality Russian content is freeware. that is fine i dont see any problem with that. i also dont think its strange at all. i think what you see is many more creating low quality freeware than what you see from Russia that is all. i mean i think most US freeware content is junk, but i realize everyone has to start somewhere.

you said you learned the program in one week. were you able to create exquisite phototextured models at that instance?

Now thats a cool route, Moscow subway? where can it be downloaded?

I have learned the program in a week, but that doesn't mean I have stopped learning. And the metro train (not this ER2 below), in fact uses some of my textures. And not only that, I'm currently developing the transsiberian route. And an ER2, which is soon finished (as I didn't like that the default train had the same cab for the newer version):

It has loads of bugs, and non driveable, and of course, non released. Not finished yet.

Moscow Metro routes are avaiable here:

Lublinskaya line: http://metrorus.ru/?p=1016

zamoskvoretsaja line: http://metrorus.ru/?p=709 Zamoskvoretsaja line needs this 81-717 train here to work: http://metrorus.ru/?p=763

kazanski metropoliten: http://metrorus.ru/?p=600

moskva cirle line: http://metrorus.ru/?p=756

The "Sokolnicheskaya" line is down right now. If it's very important I can send that route by mail.

EDIT: The first week I learned the program, I was only able to do a very ugly disel engine. But my knowlegde did expand. It's the same for other people learning, but they need to put a lot of effort and patience in order to success. Graphics isn't the easier, but not the hardest either.

I'm going to pretend that you're talking primarily about locomotives, okay?

wellllll somewhat. im not pointing anything out specific. i even consider most of my early work pretty much junk, but like i said, we had to learn somewhere. i am mostly referring to the gobs of content on the DLS that is low quality and very very outdated. Euphod, you do create useful items, even though i am being unfair by saying so ;)

Wow, I hate this thread.

It will lead me to spending money I don't have, I can tell.

In the past I have purchased a few Locos from Jointed Rail. They look and work great. I have the 3 pack "Short Line Service" and another loco.

I'm thinking a "Short Line" version of this loco would look really cool for my route.

I emailed Jointed Rail about it, I hope it don't cost too much, I'm already eating ramon noodles.:)
